I don't know how you did it or WHY you did it or what ungodly sum it
cost you but it is very interesting news and I think will have very
good results for you. Operators used to like buying Bally games, didn't
they, and all the NON-RGP ones I have talked to don't seem to like the
Stern name much.

Well this is something new. If it's true, now you've got the CAD files
what are you going to re-make? How does this effect Stern given you
said he's paid to use WMS patents? Now I see why you've been using WMS
parts in your whitewoods!

I've looked at many of the patents in my lunch hour at work many times
and have come to the conclusion that they are that great (Especially
when only you, Stern and maybe Gene is making pinball's). I'd bet
some of those CAD files and bill of materials with supplier information
is helpful.

Good luck anyhow...

I feel pretty confident this is *NOT* an April Fool's joke. Wayne has been
very truthful and pinball news's integrity isn't worth wasting on an April
Fools joke IMO.

I wish Wayne the best of luck and hopefully everyone out there gets the
parts they need while Wayne turns his endeavor into a great success.

It's a great day for pinball.

I am cautious about the April fools thing too. This would be great
news. Anyone but Gene owning these rights would be fantastic news. If
only Wayne could get that pile of residual parts that are wasting away
in Gene's warehouse. Maybe Gene will sell Wayne his Williams parts
inventory in exchange for the rights to continue building the BBB
project!

On April 2 we will know for sure I guess!

It isn't 1st of April yet in Australia so therfore it must be true.
Having an April Fools joke on the 31st of March would be in direct
violation of April Fools Day's code of ethics and so the joke would be
considered to be null and void (ie we would not have been fooled at
all). Having said that, Wayne's comment of "Crikey" could mean that he
is surprised, so it could be BS after all. Anyway I was thinking that
one of the new MM playfields would be great but now I think an entire
brand new MM machine would be better.

Guess it is, but of course anyone how owns a MM would be pissed their
beloved machine will not be as valuable anymore. I just notice that MM
makes a lot of money on route. I know the one at college back in the
days always raked in the quarters.

I guess it would cost too much to remake and still sell enough machines
to profit.

I personally find it a bit disgusting. Pinball is an American
institution, and I'll bet even the guy in Austrailia will outsource
half of it to China.

I try not to be jingoistic, but if all this comes to pass then one of
the most unique traits about pinball is over. Only way I'd ever buy
some pinball from Austrailia is it had better be the best damn original
game ever, or it better be $2k NIB.

WMS remakes at high prices? Forget about it.

I'll bet remakes are in the NEAR future (one year out or so). I
wouldn't even be suprised to see Wayne assemble the populated
playfields only in Aussie land, and then use someone like Big Time
Cabinets to make the cabinets and do final assembly in the USA. This
would make a lot of sense. If the buisness details can be worked out,
I'd not be surprised to see two machines a year in perhaps 1000 unit
quantities at somewhere in the $5K price region. That's 10M gross
sales. There are certainly enough popular titles to support this.

ROCK ON.

They were buying a lot more than just a name. We will have to wait and
see what he turns out. Going to be his own system, not WPC. Just says
he will use existing Williams part numbers. For all we know he's going
to turn out stripped down 80s type machines with no licenses. Which
could be a good thing if the games are good. Not a cinch to make a
good game. Who's he got for designers?
Plus don't know if he's going to do remakes or new games. Not sure
what the point would be to do remakes and have to hassle with not even
using the old boardset, that could be a nightmare. The whitewood
definitely looked new but sure didn't look like a big budget machine if
that's going to be the first one. Lot of unknowns and lots potential.
Good luck to him nonetheless!!

I enjoy a good pinball machine, wherever it comes from! Would you rather
have the rights owned by someone in the USA who takes years to make
anything happen, or someone overseas who can get things done?

Congrats Wayne!

I'm betting it's real. Too much innuendo lately. Gene's cease and
desist letter, the talk of the Oct exclusivity clause etc.

>

Would make sense to make populated playfields in Australia (or an even
cheaper locale in Pac Rim) and do final assemply in USA using someone
like Big Time Cabinets to supply cabinets and do assembly. Just a
guess.

MM, he already mentioned he's doing playfields and this is a no
brainer. I'd suspect AF, since it is a simple game and very popular.
AFM comes to mind. Oh this is too much fun.

I'll bet BBB gets done, AFTER Wayne gets the contracts he needs out of
Gene for molds, supplies, etc. This is probably the root of the C&D

Well, to be fair, he hasn't produced anything yet.

The irony is that Gary says remakes are on the way, then bids high on
games he says will be remade anyway, says MRPA will never make a game,
then we find out that the person who can remake the games is MRPA.

Strange twist of events. Even without this news, Gary is a tool.

Correction he could still do remakes using pure WPC. I guess. This is
an article, not the legal papers.

The wording of the news implies he could remake a Williams MM and name
it a Bally, but then seems to indicate he could only manufacturer it
under his own company, and only use Bally if they were his new games OR
former Bally games. Might have to be labeled as a "WayneCo MM", maybe
not.

So he has to use his new system (whateverr it is) for new games cuz
Williams wouldn't let him use their old system for making any new
games. Hmmm. Paying for the rights for WPC but he can't do anything
new with it.

Sure, I've played some amusing Zacarria and Playmatic games, too.

But those games are virtually worthless as collectibles and probably
come to very few minds when someone says the word "pinball". I've got
a New World sitting in storage with my name on it, and it looks *new*,
brand new. But so what? That makes it worth $350 instead of $200 if
it was beat up?

In a dying market, remakes of old machines aren't going to change
anyone's minds about what country was the master of pinball. This
stuff, even if he's very successful, isn't going to be a drop in the
bucket of the numbers already out there.

Awesome, Wayne. I can't imagine the business opportunities available
to you due to location...chinese labor, asian market, friendly aussie
trade rights with the U.S....Nice move and good luck.

I fully expect to see some Bally pins around Shanghai when I get over
there again in 3 years or so. Hmmmm, any chance of an olympic tie-in
pin for 2008?

However, given the size of your investment and the start-up costs of
integrating the new technologies with base knowledge, I promise to be a
bit more realistic in terms of my "reasonable price" expectations than
what I seen suggested by others!

Frankly pinball has worse problems than *where* it's
potentially manufactured. The market is close to dead and
even with Wms economy of scale and associated manufacturers
an MM still cost almost 4K NIB eight years ago.

Now imagine *today* how much they could cost if you want that same
level of quality eight years later and with none of the tooling
plants available and no savings from large production numbers.

But enough of glum assessments - good news is good news ;-)

Does it matter? The US had the automobile first, and we know the
Japanese make better cars.

Remakes of old machines only purpose is to get games like MM to the
hands of those who cannot because of the scarce supply. Of course the
true main purpose for any of this is $$$$$$$

If there is a good possiblity of making $$$$ it will be done. It is
that simple. Its all about the GREEN. That is life.

Yeah but your example was remaking MM, so there is no need to recoup
the development costs of that particular game. Wayne didn't pay them
THAT much.
Sure would be volume savings on other stuff like parts, screening etc,
but that stuff is minor compared to the near 1 million per game
development cost that had to be made back by Williams.
If he wants to use his own system to make a worthily named MM 2?
