Got a Buccaneer that has been sitting untouched in my Uncle's basement
for several years. It powers up and no playfield lights come on.The
backbox lights work and its stuck on tilt and game over.Checked all anti
cheat switches, fuses.Manually engaging the start relay wont start a
game.Engaging the tilt hold relay turns on the playfield lights and
turns off the tilt light. It wont manually add credits from either coin
door switch but I can step the stepper up and down manually.Any ideas
would be welcomed!

Won't start a game once a credit is added manually?

No.There are credits on the machine but pushing the start button does
nothing.

Just for a qucik start by chance, did you try to spin the score motor
by hand to see if it turns and then stops? Sometimes that will bring
it to life. Just an easy check.

I just went to look for the latch relay but didnt see it labelled. The 12
relays in the bottom pannel are all labelled and the ones in the backbox
have letters. Is it the AX relay you are referring to?

game:)

Yes there are credits and the switches close as they should.

Please tell us what relay that would be?

It would likely be plugged into the side board on the cabinet, not
directly to the bottom board.

Yes it sure is,but you just reminded me of something.I havent tried
taking a wire brush to all the jones connectors yet.So I will go do
that.

Problem solved.Gotem needem suggested a latch relay.I believe there are
several latch relays but I read the AX relay can be very problematic. So
after cleaning the jones plugs to no avail,I went after the AX relay. It
must have just been ceased up cause all I did was move it a couple times
without even taking it out,and voila! The game is now fully
working. Thanks to all for the help. And to clarify, the coin door jones
plug is on the bottom board in this machine.

If the Ax relay isn't adjusted correctly, the game will never work
correctly. Those things are extremely touchy. So I'd start there.

Does tripping the start relay by hand do anything at all?
