I am L-U-Ving my newly acquired Fan-Tas-Tic. Plays very nicely and works great. But this being my first EM machine, I have a couple of questions about quirks it has.

1. When you turn it on... nothing happens. No lights come on, nothing. But then you press the credit button, and voila... everything comes to life, it resets, spits out a ball and you're good to go. Shut it off, turn it back on: same same. It does remember how many credits you have, but nothing happens until you press the credit button. This issue started after I found that the credit switches were causing the score motor to run and run. I regapped the switches, the score motor issue went away, but this started. Not a big deal for a HUO machine now, but still weird.

2. Are some of the lamps above the score reels supposed to blink? All of them were burned out when I got it, and after replacing them, some stay on all the time and some blink. Normal? Same with a couple of the of the pop bumpers.

3. The flippers have a little hum when you hold them in. None of my old ss machines do that. Normal?

Thanks.

1, - try pressing the left side flipper button - light come on? That is
normal for that vintage game.

2, those blinkin' lights? #455s perhaps!

3, yes, normal, however check that the coils are not overheating - in
other words that the EOS Switches are opening correctly and reducing
current flow through the coil(s).

1. I'll check that.
2. Does that mean don't use those?
3. I did that already. They looked ok.

2. 455s are used to draw attention to the game. Usually used behind the
name on the backglass (look for countersunk/bevels around the lamp
socket holes) or other things you are interested in highlighting...not
so good for pop bumpers as the filament is somewhat fragile.

Take a pair of pliers twisting and such to round out the routed/drilled
hole so its easier to put in 455's at your leisure. You may want to use
ear plugs and shop vac while you are doing this, the 'crumbs' and dust
from this activity. The result is super quick replacement of standard
or existing round-bulb 455s for your needs to bring attraction to your
game/BG. I do NOT recommend 455s for PF attraction during play, they
are mostly random if not completely and do not serve a purpose other
than lack of interest in 'intended' PF visuals. Yes, some have said an
interaction with the PF gods of 40 years ago has recently occured... :)

Thanks for the tips. Yes, the lights come on when I press the left flipper button. I never knowed that about those old games. Pretty groovy.

But I still don't know if my pop bumper lights are supposed to be flashing or not as well as the some of the ones that illuminate the score reels. Some flash, some don't. Is that normal?

Did you check if the light bulbs say "455"? That number is a flashing
light bulb. If it is a regular bulb that is 'flashing' then it could be
a loose connection, or (if only during game play) a feature not unlike
what Gottlieb pins did where lights would turn off (or flash a few
times) when the timing motor was running - to let you know those
features wouldn't score until they re-lit.

d'oh... and duh. Yup 455's. Thanks for the help guys.
And I am too lazy to go back to the pinside is bettah (not) thread, but this place (i access through google groups) is waaaaaaaaaaaaay more helpful if you have a tech issue, than the "whoa, shiny and deep" boiz @ pinside. Especially with em's and old ss games.

I am so sick of reading headers about rulesets and HUO and NIB. Whoooo... mine came in a box!
