I am discussing a Fish Tales rule with a customer overseas.

There is a slight language barrier problem, coupled with my lack of
knowledge of the modes in FT; so I was hoping someone here can advise.

Seems strange as I love FT and have had a few pass through here and would
like to own another one, but here's the question.

He says as soon as he gets feeding frenzy, rock the boat starts

Is this normal?

Claims it just started after he switched from L-4 to L-5, and am trying to
figure it out.

Thanks!

No. Rock the boat is acquired from hitting the right orbit to advance the
boat award. Then hitting the captive ball to collect the awards from bottom
to top. Rock the Boat is like the 4th award up on the captive ball area.
The two are not related at all.

I'm thinking switch problem (missing, broken or bad diode) or possibly a
connector issue.

He might want to take this rule sheet and run it through a translator:

FF is started by completing the spot targets to light the (4) large
fish inserts (not their tails). RTB is started by the captive ball
shot which is incremented by the 'fish finder' shot (far left). It
might just be a coincindence that it's starting both modes
simultaneously. I'm running L-4 and there's a feature adjust (A02 09)
'Captive Ball Lites' that is factory set to 1. Bumping that value up
to 3 may cause what you guys are seeing.

I have a Fish Tales and i think you are awarded a Rock the Boat when
you complete 4 Tales Told. The Feeding Frenzy starts when you catch 4
fish. If you catch 4 fish and complete 4 Tales told at the same time,
I believe the Feeding Frenzy and Rock The Boat will start at the same
time. Rock the boat also starts when you increment to that level and
strike the captive ball.

He claims it never happened while he was running L-4.

Just trying to confirm what I thought was the case, and that the behavior
wasn't normal.

Thanks Mike!

Yeah, Mike is right. The far right 'long cast' loop will advance the
captive ball. But, it's also a random mystery award from the 'fish
finder' shot.

This is correct. Basically you'd have to have gotten every tale for
each fish up to that point, then after starting Feeding Frenzy, shoot
the spinner for one of your fishes, then RTB will start. The 4 Tales
RTB is 30 seconds long vs 20 seconds long for the captive ball RTB.

(This is all documented in the 15+-year-old rulesheet btw ;) )

If it's not as simple as that, then maybe one of the fish standups is
also triggering the spinner somehow? Seems you me you'd hear weird
spinner spins for no reason if that was the case, though.
