On location the game seems to have some depth. In a 5 pin collection
will it hold it's own?

Thanks,

I'll let you know tomorrow, I am picking one up for a very fair price
here locally.
This has been on my list but seems to be hard to come by out west
anyway.
Just found one that looks to be in good condition. Never played it,
but the theme and look entice me along with the layout and toys.

>>In a 5 pin collection will it hold it's own?

Have been wondering that myself ever since I got it....?

I don't know that I'd say there's depth there. The "Murder Mystery"
thing was never developed in the software. It's implied that there's
clues to find and guessing to be done; but, there isn't - at least
nothing that requires deduction and logic - which really stinks and
had soured me on the game when I got it because I did expect some sort
of strategy with the theme.... and there just isn't.

If you can reconcile yourself to the fact that the overall game is
kind of pointless - the light effects are nice, sound is great and
gameplay is pretty OK. If you get one for a decent price - sure... in
a 5 pin collection, it's a nice change of pace. In a 3 pin collection,
I'd say get something else.

Elevator Madness multi-ball will get maddeningly repetitive.

And like the other poster stated. there are I think there are only 5
mysteries programmed and they are all extremely obvious after 1 day.

It's a nice layout with some flow (orbit) and some stop and go (middle
ramp) and I loved it on location, but at home I couldn't get rid of it
fast enough. This is a B/W version of what unfinished code looks
like.
The train ramp awards nothing of importance. There is no wizard mode
for completely all 5 crimes. The clues you pick up are reset after
each mystery so it's very hard to get all 5 (for the extra ball)
however the extra ball on the slots comes up nearly every game.

The Roulette bet is random and you are awarded the "Jackpot" 60-70
times per game.

This is the perfect game for the PROC and new programming.

I agree with the above. The game is somewhat unique in its theme and
is its strongest point. I like the roulette wheel, where you can
gamble your points. Great sounds and cool film noir theme. I think
if you're into the Sam Spade theme, or the gambling element, it might
be your game. It's also quite flowy with a huge center elevator ramp
where in certain modes you can really go to town. But at the same
time, it has other several other shots that are much more difficult to
hit. I like it a lot for its uniqueness of theme and differenet
playfield layout.

Well, as a home owner of WD? I think I'm actually qualified (for once)
to comment.

I think it's great, and it's the most played pinball I've owned by my
girlfriend and visiting friends.
The choice of 'novice' (unlimited balls for a set time - 2 mins by
default) and normal play is great for beginners.

There's a good choice of shots - yes, some are a little pointless
(train ramp) but others are good. If you know the rules then it pays
to rack up the clues (lite TAXI from drop targets or shooting ramp
orbit) to get the extra ball - if you're 1 or 2 clues away from the EB
then DON'T identify the killer (either pick the wrong one, or choose
the evidence option instead of identify killer) so you can rack up the
clues and earn the EB.

I still find it a challenge, even though it lacks a wizard mode - the
reason being that it's challenging to catch the killer in roof mode
and then shoot the phone to clobber him (you have quite a short time
to make the phone shot, and the points count down).
Once you've hit the phone and banged up your suspect then you get roof
multiball which is a frantic 4 ball multiball where the lane shots
earn you the value of the phone shot when you caught the killer.
So in effect, the game rewards you for making the phone shot super
quick, and then keeping 4 balls in play to rack up the points.

I found that when my game shipped it was running 0.3 software, and the
killer usually seemed to be Bruno (for some reason). Updating to the
final ROM set made things much more random.

I've owned it for 2 months now, and it's a definite keeper for me.

Shopping for my last Pin, WhoDunnit jumped on the Radar, My wife and I
went to play what was a very good condition (extremely clean and well
maintained, and nicely shopped ) Who Dunnit for a very good price.
Alas, It only took about 15 minutes to realize the lack of what I
would refer to playability. We kept getting the same "Mysteries" and
there was a fair amount of play stoppage while you were asked to
choose the suspect. It was very interrupting to the flow of the
game. Also the wide center ramp didn't really offer much of a
challenge at it would scoop up any shots to the center of the
playfield. Just don't think it had a lot of variety. That being said
though it was a good looking game as far as the artwork goes and the
Slot Machine Reels under the playfield were very cool.

Might be a good game in larger collection but in a small collection i
would say skip it.

I had it in a 5 pin collection. Really liked it the first month I had
it. By the third month I wanted it out of my house. It just didn't
keep me "wanting more". Didn't hold my interest. It would be a
decent game in a large collection

Thought it was hard to get all 5 :D Yes, there are only 5 crimes but
the clues change. A few weeks after owning it I thought I had them all
figured out. I was wrong. I dont know of any other pinball that will
keep you thinking as much as this one!

Well, you don't have to think that much. The first clue eliminates
50% of the suspects and a second clue will always reveal the culprit.
There is an unintended pattern in the clues.

A friend recently got this title and it reminded me of Kingpin, I even
commented to him this is the poor mans Kingpin.

Make sure to check the slot machine and make sure the reels match the
DMD.
If they are cracked or warped the slot won't work properly and they
are very hard to find.

No.

Great theme, horrible execution and some of the most unbalanced
scoring in the history of pinball.

It held up in my home until I traded it for a WCS and it was an only
game at the time. It is a fun game, not quite finished. Could use a
little polish on the rule set. Animations and voice calls may be the
best in all of pinball. Scoring can get crazy because of the
roullette wheel. Fun to solve all the cases, but then you just start
over again. Rooftop Multiball is fun. Not exactly a hard game and
the theme is great.

Had a WD a while back and kept it for two years. The game is very
underrated and a lot of fun.
