As if enduring the delay in receiving my Avatar LE wasn't bad enough,
now I had to reject the shipment, as some moron at UPS Freight drove a
forklift through the box, right into the underside of the cabinet.
Cabinet chunks were plainly visible through the hole in the carton.
FUCK!!!!

I imagine the worst case scenario is a return to Stern, from where it
was drop-shipped, and a new cabinet swap.

Sorry to hear that. I was watching your posts as I was waiting too.
I'm sure Stern can replace the cabinet but it is going to take a while
to get that all sorted out. I received mine last week and contacted
Stern about a defect in the translight, nothing to complain about in
comparison. I went to a Forward Air facility once to pick up a
Haunted House and there were forktruck drivers going full speed,
snagging a pallet with the forks (which would cause the freight to
slam into the rear gate of the forks) and then they would start
raising the forks all without even slowing down. I was watching
little accidents like that all over the place. I can honestly say
that place was so dangerous I was afraid to walk in there.

Greg, We have had experience together on this same type of damage :)

Get the game back, then make a claim, that damage is worth a new
cabinet from Stern and the tech to swap it. Get the money. Instead
add a 1/4" luan plywood panel glued to the to the bottom with
appropriate cutouts, fits right in, covers the damage for about $100.
You'll be up $1,900!!

Then how do they dispose of the damaged goods?

Maybe you should call them up and ask if they would sell it for grand.

You have it backwards, the other guy who was talking about how
dangerous it is has it spot on. UPS and any other sort of freight/
warehouse/trucking facility has fork truck drivers going full speed
picking up freight on the fly and smashing it together to fit into the
trucks. If you drive too slow they will fire you and bring in someone
who will drive faster. Makes no difference whether you are union or
not, nobody can drive as fast as they demand and not break stuff.

Greg- I feel your pain. I had the EXACT same thing happen toe with a
Gold Elvis years ago. Put a fork through the bottom. At that time, all
Stern would do would ship me a new REGULAR Elvis. The distributor had
to transfer the gold items to the new game. Hope they do u right this
time, though to do it "right" is going to take some time. I would
think they will need to return it- and then swap in a new cabinet-
should be pretty straight forward A's there is nothing "LE" about the
cab itself (unlike BSM)

That really sucks man. I've been to loading docks before too and saw
how those guys drive, it's amazing they don't break every shipment.
He was probably pushing the box with the forks and it gave way, or he
pushed it into another pallet. They have little hotdogg tricks they
like to do on those things, and like said before they never stop.
They pick the game up before they've stopped and usually only have the
forks about halfway under the pallet.

A new game may not be an option. Same thing happened to a friend of
mine with an Avatar LE. Stern told him to refuse shipment. All LE's

Down the road when you start having weird problems.

Wiring harnesses that got whacked could easily lead to connector issues.

Boards - wait until you start having board problems and wonder if you now
have traces cracked or weakened, IC's with internal issues, problems under
IC's you can't see.

Extra coat of clearcoat starts having issues.

Etc. Etc.

If this was a thousand dollar game, I'd say throw in a new cabinet and be
happy.

When we are talking near $6K, I'd want new game or refund and do without.

Would you want a brand new car, never driven, smacked, repaired. And never
worry about problems down the road from things not being new and straight.
Risk premature failures of engine and transmission ?

Not me. LTG :)

The real problem is ups freight could care less. Always check the contents. They will recoupe your freight to look undamaged. After you sign, your screwed. Management doesn't give a fart about you or your freight. The forklift driver is underpaid and overworked. Supervisors walk right by your damaged freight and doesn't think twice about it. I would guess about 75 percent of the fr8ght shipped through ups freight is damaged in one way or another.
