My STTNG was working fine until today: I turn it on & immediately a
VERY loud buzz sounds and continues as the game powers up. The VERY
loud buzz continues indefinitely as I put the ball in play. There is
no credit dot or warning on start-up of there being a problem. I have
already double-checked all ground connections to make sure that they
are secure. I did a visual check of all connections in the backbox
and under the playfield to see if anything looked suspect, but I
couldn't find anything.

What else should I check?

Thanks so much for your help!

We have to do a bit of sluething first.
Is the buzz coming from the speaker panel, bottom speaker, both, or
neither?

The very loud buzz is coming from the bottom cabinet speaker as well
as the speaker panel. The buzz is MUCH louder than the game's sound.
Thanks for your help Chris!

Do you have other pins with same chipset that you could swap the sound
board? If it were
E, I would suspect the two large caps on the sound board. Or perhaps
the ground is messed up on one of them. You could try grounding them
to each other and if that doesn't help I'd recommend replacing them
altogether.

So I swapped an old sound board in, and the loud buzz is gone. The
machine boots up normally, but now none of the solenoids work when I
start a game (the ball doesn't come out of the trough, the flippers
don't work, etc). I tried going into test mode to run the solenoids,
but still nothing.

Any suggestions?

Nevermind - I changed all solenoid fuses & everything is now working
with the old sound board back in the game. Thanks for your help!
