I just finished shopping a DM and everyone complains about the game
being so tough to shop out. Once the ramps are off, it's a breeze,
but some people look at them all twisting and intertwining and think
that it looks intimidating. DM is far easier than TZ or STTNG and
I've done loads of those two. Here's the best order that I find to
get the big stuff out of the way on this game...

1) Unplug everything underneath the playfield. Mark the connectors if
you feel the need.
2) Remove the VUK popper wireform
3) Remove the right inlane return wireform
4) Remove the upper left wireform that attaches to the claw ramp
assembly.
5) Remove the left inlane return wireform (loosen the plastic above
the upper flipper to get more room)
6) Remove the wireform that returns to the Retina Scan
7) Remove the middle plastic ramp
8) Remove the small wireform that goes from the claw ramp assembly
into the pop-bumpers
9) Remove the left plastic ramp
10) Remove the claw ramp assembly
11) Remove the right plastic ramp

You don't really need to remove the elevator assembly cleaning.

The claw motor assembly doesn't really have to be removed, but it's
not that hard...

1) Unplug the two connectors under the playfield, there is a third
harness for the optics, but we'll get that in a moment.
2) Remove the plastic that is attached to the backboard
3) Remove the chromed plastic cover over the claw arm
4) Loosen the plastic that covers the claw assembly
5) Remove the 4 screws that hold the claw assembly from the back side
of the backboard
6) Raise the claw assembly up enough so the plastic cover can be
slipped off
7) Unplug the optics harness

That's it! If you did take the claw motor assembly out, take the time
to replace the two optics on the little board. This is the main
reason the claw fails and it's really easy to take care of it now that
you have it out of the game.

Have Fun!

Agreed... I didn't think Demo Man was too bad either. I took plenty of
pics, but didnt really need them as the ramp only go on one way
LOL.... Same with Wh20, I thought it was just as easy as it is all
ramps too...

Key, Putting the pretzel back together on the top, only can do it one
way and tuning the elevator and Claw arm to get those to work properly
after a playfield swap.

I'm shopping one out right now, and I was surprised how fast
everything came off the playfield.

I did a playfield swap with mine, and it wasn't that bad at all. It
took a while to do it all right, but it came right apart and went
right back together with basically no problems.

Now, f*#$*ing PinBot on the other hand...

I didn't do a PF swap on that other Pinbot I had, so I dunno about the
PF swap, but just shopping it out with a topside teardown wasnt too
bad. Honestly the worst game I have shopped to date (Full topside
teardown) would have to be TSPP... There is just sooooo much Sh%T to
remove....

Honestly, a shop job would be pretty easy. The real pain comes in
from how much they have bolted to the bottom of the playfield doing,
well, everything imaginable. Like how the roll over switches are both
a leaf switch stack and a wireform that are separate so they require 4
screws and an adjustment to ensure they work each time. That just
took me forever to do...

:-/

It looks pretty amazing now. You won't recognize it at the show from
the one and a half you sold me ;)
