removing clear coat from playfield???

im working on ressurecting a bally blackjack pin...got it working great
and i stripped the playfield to clean and wax as it is filthy...looks
like someone clearcoated the playfield, without cleaning it!!...needless
to say i cant get the dirt off...the clearcoat is flaking up in some
areas and is removable if i work at it but in other places is not that
easy...any tips on what i should do from here??? i would like to remove
clearcoat, touch up playfield and flush inserts, then re- clear coat...
please advise

You will have to sand off the clear coat. Start with 800 grit and sand
until the paint starts to sand off.

No nice job to do so .. maybe it is easier to sand with 1000 or 2000 and
do a airbrushjob in this areas.

Bring it down with sandpaper, and be very aware of when you go through
existing CC you applied, and definitely know when you are taking off
original. Any color, you have gone too far, so take it slow. Good
luck, 1500-2000 and a very time consuming process.

depends on what type of clearcoat was used. If it's flaking off. Use
something flat like a mini trowel and slowly move it under the clear and
chip it off in flakes. It takes forever, but it's usually the only way
to make it happen without ruining the field.
