I saw a thread with a cryptic discussion of adding a shaker to a non
LE Lord of the Rings machine, but no clear resolve or instructions on
how to do this addition properly and fully integrate with the LE
software (again on a regular run machine). Can anyone provide some
clearer information on doing this, either posted here or in an email?
Thanks in advance for any info, I love the game and would like to add
this feature.

Not totally sure what the whole issue is but from what I understand,
the LE vesion uses a different board set, and different ROM type that
is not compatible the the regular LOTR boards, making it a pretty huge
undertaking to convert it to support a shaker. You would think the
code in the original could just get an update to support the shaker,
Stern would only benefit from sales of shakers for the games...

You CAN add a shaker to any game.
You CAN'T software control it.
You CAN'T install LOTR LE code in a LOTR.

I have a shaker in my standard LOTR, you need the WPC Roadshow shaker
board. Piggyback the 20V off a slingshot coil (or similar) Earth to
the ground braid and then I took the drive off the Balrog flasher.
It's easy to do and works perfectly.

Not true. Someone did figure it out, but it's not like they can post
it for sale because it probably infringes on Stern somehow and bet
they would not be happy about it. Kinda like how you cannot sell the
WPC roms with the "no ghosting" patch installed. I am not at liberty
to get into details, but just know that it does exit. I have a LOTR
LE, so don't need to worry about it.

Strange, the LOTR at Pinball Life's Expo open house had a LOTR with software
running it. LTG :)

My standard game also is a converted LE.
It rocks ! It adds so much to the gameplay and the software really is
well implemented.

So, if someone with a "standard" version wanted to update to the LE
code, how would they go about doing it, hypothetically of course! ;-)

First rule of LOTR shaker club is you don't talk about LOTR shaker
club ;)
Seriously though look at Lloyds post there's a hint.

No, not perfectly. Triggering by the flasher is a far cry from the
perfect software control.

OK, here;s the deal.
The shaker code is in Stern's 10.02 version of the code. That code
will run just fine with the regular LoTR - but the shaker is not
activated.
To activate the shaker, the code needs to find a special version of
the memory decoder PAL. Then, a bit of wiring and a shaker kit and
your LoTR is moving.
Stern doesn't seem to make either of these parts available, and they
are both subject to copyright - so you are not going to find the
parts
for sale without their approval. The PAL can be rewritten with
original code, but the EPROM is out of reach until Stern puts it up
for download.
And yes, the LoTR shaker integration is the best I have ever seen
(from the factory, that is).
