CPR Firepower Playfields -

Anybody else that received a FP playfield from CPR have any issues
with theirs?

Mine is nice and smooth on one side of the playfield and and has
raised inserts with noticeable bumps in the clear on the other side.
Light visible scratches on the surface of the clear all over and one
of the blue Power inserts has some kind of small hair-like string in
the clear....

This is very disappointing. The quality control on this field was
obviously poor. I'm going to throw a couple pics into my Dropbox soon
and I'll post a few links to the pics.

I'm just wondering if anybody else has had issues and how they were
dealt with. I feel like I received a 2nd and I certainly didn't pay
for a 2nd. I'll be contacting them soon.

I received my Firepower playfield on Thursday and opened the box and
thought Awesome, but checking more closely I found that the large
"Fire" insert and the "shield on" and Three adjacent inserts had
lifted. the clearcoat was cracked and zippered on the edges, if I ran
my nail lightly over the insert it would catch. I sent an Email, but
have not received a reply yet. I will wait and see what CPR says.

OK. I see lots of praise here on RGP. Apparently, there is a thread
on pinside.com where folks are talking about the problems... I guess
I'm not the only one.

I just sent an email to CPR making them aware of the problem areas I
now have on my FP playfield as well. Will reinspect after a week or
so.

Mine has the same issues with the lifted inserts. Otherwise it looks
good. I'm waiting for a response to an email as well. CPR has taken
care of me in the past on a similar issue so I'm expecting they will
do the same here.

The "Fire" insert is high enough that the art will definitely start to
wear immediately.

The one playfield I saw had hair in the clear and inserts that were
raised. When I say raised I mean you could feel the edge of the insert.
It need another shot of clear. It's too bad but something went bad when
they made fire power playfields.

thier expense. Never expected an answer on a Sunday night. Major
Kudos to CPR for the great customer service and a speedy reply.

i recieved a space shuttle playfield w/ a similar insert issue----i
got a response right away, sent them pics, and they are trouble
shooting the issue.---not sure about firepower, but mine looks like it
may have occurred during shipping. cpr was very responsive and the
communication was great. they are sending out a new pf asap and are
paying to have mine returned. i'm sure everything will work out for
all of us---they are real stand up guys and they are doing great
things for the hobby.

a Space Shuttle shipped at the same time.

Just so everybody knows, we're aware of the random playfields popping
inserts up, and exchanges are due each and every customer who is
effected. The group is small, folks. Don't get too alarmed.

The playfields leave here perfect, and the report of popped inserts is
immediate upon their arrival. So something is happening during those
5-10 days of UPS Ground travel. We've gotten back a couple of the
popped playfields and analysis of the inserts are a total & clean
release from the epoxy. Seemingly nearly always on the big hotdog
inserts, or the larger "windows" on Cyclone.

The instances are small - like 3 of 1xx Cyclones, 5 of 1xx Shuttles, 7
of 1xx Firepowers. But they're all within the last 3 months, and in 7
years and 3xxx playfields shipped, you could count CPR insert popping on
one hand (not even using your thumb).

Upon inspection, the epoxy work was perfect. We pushed a few out and
looked. Just a total release all the way around the insert. Not a speck
of epoxy on the insert edge. We're suspecting that a brutal bang or
drop on the playfield box' end was enough to shock/jar the inserts from
their hold. Then they were free, and there is only one direction to
go... up.

There are a variety of things we have to look at, and we're
investigating them now. Such as shipping hotdog-insert or large-insert
based playfields in a different, more "shock resistant" type of parcel.
Shipping seems to be the catylyst 100% of the time. Because it's
visible immediately upon first opening the box. But left here fine.

Every remaining playfield that's been sitting here unsold, Shuttles from
November, Cyclones from December, and Firepowers from January - all have
100% perfect inserts. We can't even push them out with all the force of
a thumb or fingers. Even a copper pipe and a mallet historically won't
bang out our inserts without taking the glue ring and a chunk of wood
with it.

We've climate/temp-tested a few Firepower playfields last week -
outdoors in -15 degrees below freezing for 2 hours, back into the house
+25 degrees for 2 hours, over and over again for 3 days. Couldn't get a
playfield to pop an insert. We also arched a couple Shuttles (yes,
forcibly bowed them) over a workhorse in the shop, me and another guy
pushing both ends down about 4-5 inches (the playfield was freakishly
U-shape bowed) and not an insert budged. Not even those 2 hotdogs in
the very center (which were at the apex of the bow).

As the FP customers who were victims know, we've got fresh FP's in
clearcoating now (hadn't anticipated this need for exchanges) and we'll
be doing the shippings in weeks to come once they are back and hardened
up suitably.

As always, know we're pinheads just like all of you, less-so of a
business model (sometimes to a fault), and we don't want this happening
any more than you do. CPR playfields must rock, and that is always our
goal, and always will be. To all that read this stuff, please make sure
you keep threads like this in context and realize it's not that we're
making/selling/shipping shitty playfield products. It's rare bad-apple
playfield cases that have done unusual things (post shipping) and we're
on the case to remedy those effected. Not the end of the world. Not
that anybody said it was :) But some people may worry about a
playfield they are eyeballing from a future run.

Nobody is ever stuck with a shit board that UPS whacked. We'll exchange
or refund anybody who wants a replacement or total undo of their purchase.

When you say "lifted" Joe, do you mean that you can see a zigzag
fracture in the clear, that you can feel it with a nail, that you can
see an uneven edge in glare, or what? I'd just like to know.

Mine has at least one raised insert (maybe more), but it looks to have
been raised prior to clearing. There is an edge, but it hasn't broken
the clear. It will probably wear through after play.

I too believe you guys rock and do a wonderful job! Glad to hear there
is resolve and quickly. Is humidity, cold/warm cycles from loading,
scanning and offloading/leaving the problem. If so, how about shipments
just in spring/fall when fluxuations may be minimal (depending on where
its going, northern or southern hemi).

I have already received a email back from CPR and will be returning
this playfield tomorrow. I am far from complaining and I'm happy for
the speedy response. I can't say what caused mine to lift/raise/pop/
etc...but I would be afraid that the ball would wear the edge of this
puppy down and cause a new wear spot.

I am, however, extremely grateful to CPR for remaking this playfield
and I have been waiting years for them to do so. What i have is
stunning to look at and has been getting all kinds of compliments in
my office (and yes from another pinhead I work with) on how amazing
this playfield is.

I'm not worried at all about quality product from Kevin and Company.
I'll be a returning customer for years to come!
