I'm a big Stern Lightning fan and have been playing mine non stop
since I got it going in July. I bought it because I thought it would
be similar to the awsome Black Knight 2000 or Pharoah but I find it
unique and actually prefer it so I would like to find out who created
the art. Judging from the Internet Database Gerry Simkus, Parkinson
and Doug Watson did a lot of the art on early 80's Stern pins. A lot
of this art is awsome (DW also did Pharoah). I like the Lightning back
glass and the way the scene seems full of elecrically charged
particles. I also like the image of Odin on the top playfield and the
primative designs on the plastics that contain hidden creatures and
figures. Sadley the display in the playfield takes a lot of space
which restricts the art below but its needed for the excellent
Odin/bonus time feature so its a good trade off in my opinion. Can
anyone out there tell me who's art work lightning is?

Another good thing about this artwork is that it looks very good after I did
some extensive touchup to mine. Easier to blend in small spots and specks when
the art is not just simple solid colors as usual, the touchups just don't show
up. I can't really tell who might have drawn it, there are not really any
other Sterns that have this specific 'peppered' sort of art that I could see.

It is much better with the display than with the missing artwork IMO, it's
really useful as you can look at the timer without glancing at the backglass,
and it just looks cool period, quite unique too, very few games have a pf
display.
Let me know if you want some tips on how to set up the scoring levels and
settings regarding the bonus timer, you can really make that 30-second timer
exciting if you set the backbox options up in a certain way. Lightning is a
KILLER game! Frenchy

I cant tell you whos art it is, but I do like it as well. The little
figures Im kinda iffy on. They look like more of something frow New
Guinea.
As far as the backglass(nip&bulge as my wife started calling it), I
put about 6 or so real blinky 455 bulbs in the path of the lightning,
and it really makes it look cool.

I couldn't understand the "Nip and Bulge" comment until I saw the
backglass! Thats great! There is no better name than Nip and Bulge!
