About three week ago I was in Halifax for business that pays the
bills. While I was there I met up with John Greatwich and check in
with Kevin at CPR. I’m an artist with CPR and I'm currently working on
the Paragon Backglass. I met John in Chicago at Expo, and let me just
say he's a real nice guy. I have been wanting to talk to John for some
time. While in Chicago we talked about Backglasses and the
possibilities to reproduce them. While I was there in Halifax John
helped us out and took us for a tour of the printing company he works
with. Please check out this link to the video. In the video we did a
test print of the Paragon backglass. Also the side note is that this
test print is at 72dpi and not at the 300 dpi that John prints at but
I sure you can’t see the difference. The only reason it was done at 72
dpi was I grabbed the wrong file before jumping on the plane.

Granted this was only a test and that CPR will do full blown
Silkscreen runs on this Backglass at 300dpi. What John is doing with
the printer makes it possible for one-off's that CPR will not get a
chance to make or reproduce as there is no call for it. If you look at
production runs and there were only 500 games made and there is very
little call for say 50 backglass or playfields. Here is where John can
come in. John and CPR are friends and are working together on the
common goal to restore pinball art. Trust me Halifax is a small city
and for two companies that work on pinball these guys are friends and
there is a lot of support between them.

Cheers

It was great to meet new people at Expo & to take David & his
entourage on a tour of Halifax. Thats what pinball is all about for
me, seeing if more pinball stuff can be done & push the the envelope
on technology. Kevin Wayte was gracious to allow me to tag alone on
the visit to his house & operation. Explain his process, no holds
barred with my being there also. Contrary to what people might think
at times, we are a small group of guys dedicated to pinball. We have
different approaches to reaching the same goals, CPR is in it big
time, & I am in it more as a hobby to prove dreams can come true! So
thanks David on the video with the color span, & a look at me in my
work overalls. David forgot that I don't work for the printer, they
are the real experts, & I was there just to show them a test & clean
the glass, lol. Hard to believe that was a Bally Black Jack glass with
the ink removed.

David was the first to take me up on the offer of a test with direct
ink. I am not here to try & lure away CPR artists. I firmly believe
that if traditional silk screen spot colors can be done. Thats great,
but hopefully there is also the hope of technology for doing similar
stuff using different technology. For the thousands of playfields/
backglasses that will probably never get done. Thanks again David for
the video, & we didn't show that the ink is almost fully cured &
totally dry when it leaves the color span (people missed the hand test
over the surface of fresh ink).

That is a great video of the process that Doc shot. I got such a
GOOSE out of seeing my playfield, and I am impressed with the
dedication that John has in his voice about how he is going about
printing the playfield. The backglass looks great also.

I am looking forward to seeing my pf for my own eyes.

Where are all the naysayers now, John? The proof is in the pudding
and you are posting some amazing results! Keep it up!

If you want to test a Seawitch backglass... I have one around ;)

I was at the printers today & we can't wait to start pushing out the
Stern glass. Way easier for all of us, into the production & out in
very little time. Printer is still onboard for playfields even though
they are extremely labour intensive. He suggested I try & get the 6
Sorcerer's together & then the group of Space Shuttle's afterwards. I
am trying to get caught up on playfields, while we prepare for Stern
Seawitch & Nine Ball glass.

I am happy about the backglasses, but it does seem like you've left
the pf guys hanging...

It seems that way, but the printer is still committed to doing
playfields. The guy in the video using the color span, is going to be
doing this for the most part from now on. Take some of the work load
off the printer. A lot of the slowness is my fault with my regular job
& life. I am gearing up now to try to get all playfields done for xmas.
