They could use the same mech in WOO, and have monkeys on the rods.
Instant flying monkeys!

I like the monkey idea, hate your acronym! Woo? Woz! :)
Although the way jack is pacing the project, Woo-hoo is more
appropriate.

Good idea, and should be pretty cheap and easy to do. File it with
the rest of the great pin ideas for WoO and other games that may or
may not make it out of the idea stage, and into design and
production.
I'd like to know the group's opinions on these obvious movie scenes
which would most likely be incorporated into the game.
1. How, in a pinball game, would you make a witch melt?
2. How would you do the tornado? Please don't say spinning discs,
that has been done before. My vote would be to just put the house on
a spinning pole, like the strippers in Sopranos.
3. How do you incorporate the Wizard's curtain? Is it an actual
curtain like Stern Playboy, or a DMD animation similar to ToM?
4. Where do you put the swinging crewmember?
5. Where do you put the ruby red slippers? Just as a pair of shoes
above a ramp like the Rolling Stones tongue?
6. Where do you put Toto the dog?
7. And...how do you make the pinball game properly emulate the
dramatic effect of when the movie changes from black and white to
color?
4.
"Flying" Monkey that picks up a ball from the PF during Multi-ball
mode via magnet and drops into a lock/hold area (castle) that must be
shot to re-release it.
A mini-compressor (tornado mode) that blows air across the PF to mess
with the ball. I don't want WOZ to be nice :-)
Maybe just something as simple as a rotating gobo light that shines on
the playfield and gives the illusion. That would probably be cheaper
and more effective. Sometimes less is more. Let the player's
imagination run wild.
But what about playfield artwork colors, etc?

Yeah it's easy with an LCD, how about we put some cool stuff in the
game instead of on the TV.
That is exactly what I'm afraid of. The "cool stuff" will be put on
the LCD/s instead of putting cool toys on the pf BUT on the brightside
the more that's reserved for the LCD leaves the PF open for more COOL
hardware :) (here's to hoping for a mind blowing pin!)
-=Chris=-
your post was pretty mind blowing! It went this way, then that way,
then this way again. What's the difference between ""cool stuff" and
COOL hardware"?
No sense having an LCD if you're not going to use it. An LCD doesn't
preclude playfield toys.
Let's hope they compliment each other nicely.
I guess I knew what I meant but failed at conveying it well. I feel
the less playfield toys the more room for useful hardware to enhance
the game play.
To be honest I love pf figurines/toys, but if removing a few figurines
allows room for a diverter or saucer I'd rather have that.
Speaking of toys - JAck could hire Back Alley Creations to create OZ
like he did for SM and the town along the side rail!
-=Chris=-
Also- it's been so long since we've had a video mode! Flying monkeys
on a vid mode would be cool.
Yeah I like that idea, makes the game very unique and provides for
nice pf scenery.
two complete playfields that rotate inside the cabinet.
One is black and white and you have to actually get to Oz and then the
playfield flips and
you have a completely colored playfield with yellow brick road ramps.
Now you're talking! Wonderful Idea! Just build it onto a rotisserie
inside the cabinet.

A fabric witch doll with no stuffing, just the fabric. Rod goes up through
the middle. A motor pulls it down and she goes flat under the wide brim of
the hat.

A large vortex (whirlpool) with ball accelerator.

This would probably be better done on video. However, a curtain on a rod
with one corner fastened to a slider could be driven by a flipper mech or
catapult...something with a long throw.
> > 4. Where do you put the swinging crewmember?
A spinner? Anywhere.

No the slippers need to be a shot that clicks the heels together when you
hit it.
> > 6. Where do you put Toto the dog?
In a picnic basket over the Toto target, of course. Hit the target and he
pops his head up through the flap.

The lower area of the playfield is in black and white, and fades into
brilliant color at the slingshots.

Great idea. Reminds me of the Hound Dog on Elvis, a very satisfying
shot. Doesn't he bark too with each hit?
and dearly missed.
i actually posted that idea a few weeks ago..on rgp and jack seemed to
like it..hopefully they apply it to the game
This was one of my first thoughts when JJP announced... if he needs detailed
plastic toys, he should look at Back Ally Creations. Stern, however, hired a
well-known company to custom sculpt the villains on SM... can't for the life
of me remember the name though... they do a lot of expensive collectable
figurines.

When the instant flying monkeys are "flying" on the playfield I would
like to see the scene from the movie where they are flying across the
dark sky on the LCD. That was freaking scary, and intense.
"complement" *groan*
(Maybe a few dozen more postings of this may register with the
less-than-literate among us, some of whom still post garbage such as
"loosing"!)

Yep, that's correct, thanks for reminding me. Seems if you're not
saying something "nice" about somebody, then the correct spelling is
indeed, complement.
Hey Jack are you reading of this stuff ?
So real cool ideas here mate .
Lets keep it coming.
Flying monkeys that grab the ball sounds good .
Witch sinking into PF sounds Good ( on a rod slowly going down)
Colour changing LCD good
Some type spinning disc with a house in the middle ( may need some
work here)
Hit the Tin man several times to get him going ?( franky on MB sort of
thing)
Lock ball in Lion hole to give him courage
Same as Scare crow ( sort of thing)
Shoot a ball in to a hot air balloon and the balloon travels up the
play field with the wizard in it .
Hey can you make this into a wide Body Pin .We got heaps of stuff
here .LOL
I think there should also be a Lion tail mechanism behind the Lion,
similar to the Champion Pub jumprope, although more wiggling around.
It seemed that the Lion's tail was always moving during that movie,
and I think it should be the same way in the game.
There should also be something about "lions and tigers and bears..oh
my!" That was pretty dramatic during the movie. Maybe it could
during a be a hurry up or something.
There should also be a poppy plant mode where they all get stoned and
fall asleep. The Lion's tail could come to a slow wiggle and stop
during this mode. The Witche's magic ball could be used too. The red
lighted sphere on LoTR kinda looks like this thing.
House on spinning disk is a good idea. Add openings to shoot forl
with a drop hole in the house that goes to an under-PF chute where
the ball pops up elsewhere on PF.
Have an RGP contest where JJ picks an idea and incorporates into the
game. The "winner" get's....something. Lot's of legal crap with
contests tho.
Or do what Universal did with Harry Potter World. Have people vote on
certain features and the most voted get incorporated into the game.
Anyways the way I see it, there are soooooo many pertinent parts to
this movie. The LCD will immensely help soak up some and help tie the
movie in. But having to choose the actual modes VS a plain video clip
- man what a tough job let alone trying to set up the play fields
hardware AND having enough room for it all without covering half the
pf where you can't see the ball most of the time. That's the only
reason why I don't care much for WH20.
It'll be interesting to see this happen for sure.

I don't post here often, but I just hope the designers get to smoke
whatever they were smoking in the '80's....... those were some trippy
pins!
I like this idea, but would also like to see them powered. So you wack
them and they shoot up, or during a specific mode/multiball, they fly up
and down on their own and you have to shoot them (like the alien guys in
AFM). Would be cool to have 2 or 3 available for shooting all the time,
then several more further back in the playfield that you only get to see
flying during said mode/multiball (they could be extinguished via ramp
shots or something). Imagine 7 or so of these things flying up and
down... would be hilarious and a thrill to shoot.
-Craig
Yea, will drop targets, subways and ramps are even older- so should
these not be used just because Stern cuts them?
The flippers could die!
People/corresponding items/modes
I was thinking like monster bash each main character can be gained and
the next goal is to get their item next (courage, heart, brains) but
change up the mode so it isn’t the same as original to unlock the
character and item(monster bash gets repetitive here).
Other items are like the monster bombs.
Forrest
Lion
Box the lion (Jets?/Target)
Groom the lion
Acquire Courage
Cornfields
Scarecrow
Take him off stake
New straw stuffing
Acquire Brain
Woods
Tin man
Oil Tin man
Polish
Acquire Heart
Kansas
Dorothy
Get Ruby slippers
Make over
Go Home
Tornado (a magnet under pf, mix master, spinning disk or vertical
spinner)
Melting witch or flying witch
Timed mode using the witches hourglass to count down time to save
Dorthy( thought about the witches castle but don’t know if it is too
similar to MM, not a bad toy to emulate)
Multiballs
Munckins
Flying Monkeys
Video Modes
Escape Flying Monkeys
Dodge Apples from Trees
Follow the Yellow Brick Road (IJ mind cart like)
Spell Surrender Dorothy
One flipper Dies during Poppy field must hit target to awaken (or
another part of the machine dies?)

The "winner" is Jack, and us, because we get to play the game. Why
just pick one idea?
WTB: NOS 80's creativity inducing motivators. I'm sure that stuff is
loong gone! The proof is in all the awesome games we have.
I don't really want to buy it, so don't send me any sale prices or
link me to any ebay auctions. Thanks :)
