Well, for all of us Michigan folk who are dying to find a good place to play, I
can HEARTILY recommend Pinball Pete's in Ann Arbor. I was floored when I got
there. Just to see 26 pins in one place was stunning. But EVERY ONE I PLAYED
WORKED! Obviously, there were little problems here or there, but NOTHING
offensive. Most all my DMD faves were there (they have some pre-DMD pins, but
not too many). No WCS, but 26 great pins (and every one of them that I saw was
clean and working well)! Dracula was like playing it new right out of the box
(minus the non-working left bumper, but who cared?), Hurricane hit the right
ramp smooth as buttah, and <sniff> they actually had the correct standup lock
targets on White Water, with the marquee working no less. I almost cried.

Now, of course, that's their MAIN gameroom on S University. We also checked
out their smaller places, which had 9 pins in one (again, an unbelievable
number for ANY location), and 11 in the other. Simply amazing. They've got
league play set up at the main gameroom, and they have RFM (strangely, no CC).

The ONLY thing that keeps me from going there next weekend is that Ann Arbor is
still around 1.5 hours away. But let me tell you, I was SO impressed, it's
worth the trip! I'll be going back there soon (probably less than a month if I
can help it). You U of Mers don't know how good you've got it! And with
helpful staff to boot! They just don't have gamerooms like this down in
pinball hell (Detroit).

What a great place!

If you have a pin to trade, you could be making that trip to Ann Arbor
with the wind blowing through your hair, behind the wheel of a cherry
1984 Chrysler LeBaron convertible ...

There's another good place for people in southwest Michigan. It's actually in
Indiana (Mishawaka) but it's only a short drive from MI. It's called Mega-Play.
They've probably got a dozen or so pinballs (newer style, newest one I've seen
is a South Park one). The other nince thing about the arcade is the large
number of classic video games they have: Pac-Man, Asteroids, Kangaroo, Space
Duel, Super Pac-Man, Baby Pacman (hey, this is yet another pinball they have :)
and a bunch of others.

Man, I remember going to Pinball Pete's in December '95 for my older sis'
graduation from UM. Tears start to roll from recollection...From memory, they
had: ToM, Fishtales, ST:TNG, Harley Davidson, GnR (I played it for the first
time and LOVED it) and one or two others I forgot about. Everything played like
clockwork and it just felt better since it was nippy outside with a coffee shop
next door. I'd like to go back there when I visit my cousins again.

As a long time vistor of Pinball Pete's, they have always had the best in
pinball. And the games always worked. This is because of the former
owner Tim A. who is a pinball nut. This tradition has been carried on by
his bro's. Tim A. has probaly the largest pin collection in the U.S. if
not the world out in Vegas. I think is Gottlieb (every Gottlieb ever
made) collection is over 95% complete. Along with hundreds of not Got.
pins..

Really? I never knew Tim Arnold was the former owner of PPs. It's a good
tradition to carry on. You say his brother(s) operate the place now? You'd
never know it...that place was SOOOO good. Can't wait to get back. Maybe in
the next month or so (but that's what I said last month =P).

I miss the old Playland arcade, here in San Jose, CA. At their peak,
they had 40(!) pinball machines, and all of them worked!

Sadly, the place deteriorated under new management, and closed for good a
few months ago.
