I've seen Tool three times. Each time they put on a great show, they
sound great and are thoroughly worth the price of the ticket. None of
the tool shows i've been to have gotten out of hand. Half of their
songs are a little more mellow then the average metal concert goer is
used to. If tool ends up coming to western NY on the last leg of their
tour, I'll buy tickets in a heartbeat.
So, My vote is for tool.
BTW, have you listened to them at all?
Tool just played 2 dates at the Staples Center here (well, in LA, but
it's only 1 hr away) and the consensus was...a slightly kinder, gentler
Tool, with MJK actually acknowledging the crowd rather than singing
with his back to them, as he has been known to do. I'm biased toward
Tool, if I had to make the choice, but i really haven't been into them
for quite a while now. If you've never seen them live, then definitely
go - the last time I saw them live was about ten years ago at a little
tiny theatre in Fresno, and, other than the fact that I practically had
to fight for my life to hold my spot near the stage, it was an
incredible show. You just get tired of getting boots to the head from
crowd surfers though. Not that you will have to worry about that at the
meadowlands though, unless you are in gen. adm. near the stage. I
haven't heard anything re: Maiden's tour though, so I can't vouch for
them. I know I'm getting old now, though - I'm going to the Hollywood
Bowl next week to see Roger Waters play DSOTM, and then I'm catching
Devo at the end of October. It'll be nothing but fat old guys on stage
for me next month, but fat old guys who know how to rock.

Their new album is just incredible and will likely take metal album of the
year.
Last week it was #9 on the US charts and #1 in 9 other countries.
If you've never seen Maiden live you HAVE to go. I saw them on the
somehwere in time tour, seventh son tour and brave new world. drove to
chicago to see them, too - 6 hours drive - course Dio was opening so it was
a spiritual event for me.
LOL
My vote counts as 10 for Maiden! :)

WRONG! It's still 4-3 for Tool. And counting. Of course, Tool fans are
less likely to post on here regarding their preference - they tend to
be more subtle than Maiden fans. Who have the subtlelty of a Mack
truck, for the most part. I mean, those shirts! Gawdalmighty! For sheer
musicality, you aren't going to beat Tool. Just take a look online at
who is generally considered the top drummer in the genre now - Danny
Carey. And the whole band is just insanely talented. Not to denigrate
Maiden - there are some good musicians there too, but not quite the
level of Tool.

Have seen them more times that I can possibly remember... you will NOT
be disappointed.
TOOL
(can I vote twice?)

You just showed the reasoning behind your name!
Willy
MAIDEN!!
Summary:
If you are a drummer :TOOL
If you are a bassist: Maiden (Steve Harris is the man, but Justin IS
Good)
If you are a guitarist: Probably Tool...Maiden forgot how to invent
riffs. Anyone remember Charlotte the Harlott? Besides, they have 3
guitarists and had to cancel a few shows when one (1) of them broke a
finger??
If you are a singer: TOOL without a doubt. Maynard doesn't talk much,
but man that boy can sing.
Enjoy!

If you like both bands equally (even though they're so different) it's
a hard decision. But you still have to choose for Tool :)

For me, the choice isn't even close. Pick Tool. Really depends on
which music your son likes better.

Iron Maiden is rock legend, Tool will be in the "where are they now" bin in
a few years.

I'd consider Iron Maiden to be in that bin since about '93. Strangely
that's one year after Tool came out with their first EP.
My vote is for Tool. Saw them around 1995 when their show and
equipment was very small, they were playing in a little, very old ice
arena with plywood thrown over the ice to make the floor. The
location, size, and production was a notch above playing in a bar.
However, their performance was incredible! I've seen them 3 times
since then, the last time for lateralus, which I liked the least
because Maynard basically ignored the audience, also I hadn't listened
to the new album enough and they didn't play enough of my choice
favorite (older) songs. I guess that's inevitable when you are
promoting a new album. I'm glad I got to see them when EVERY song they
played was a favorite song.

FWIW: Iron Maiden likely had more than 24 band members since they were
established in the early seventies.
