Tech EM: 1976 Zaccaria Moon Flight Ball Kicker weak

My father is moving in a few weeks so he passed on his old Zaccaria Moon Flight to me. I cleaned up all the contacts and got everything working however the Coil that kicks the ball into the shooter lane doesn't seem to activate long enough to kick the ball. It takes multiple tried and finally makes it. I put a meter on the coil and I am seeing maximum 10v AC. I double and triple checked all the contacts related to the kicker and don't see what would cause the voltage drop.

I am thinking of adding in another relay to power it directly without going through so many contacts.

I could also use a high-resolution scan/picture of the back glass if anyone has it.

Any suggestions?

When it was new it worked fine, so what has changed?

Most likely dirt and/or grease from 40 years of playing.

Do not add another relay, that's a waste of time and effort.

I would take your Kicker Apart and clean it along with replacing the Nylon Sleeve, check the return spring to see if it might have too much tension for whatever reason as well and see how that goes.

I agree adding a relay is not the greatest idea. The sleeve is not binding and the return spring is not very strong at all. I did find some wires that were shorting onto live light bulb sockets causing all sorts of problems. I guess I will check the wire resistance to see if there is another damaged wire.

Hold the outhole switch closed with the playfield up and watch for a
blue spark (Arc) on a switch stack on the score motor. More than
likely, that is the source of your short (time wise) or weak pulse. If
you see one, file the points and adjust the points for good closure.
You can turn the power off and advance the score motor by hand (only in
its normal direction) to confirm good closure of those points. You can
also look for similar blue sparks as switches open or closed while the
machine keeps cycling the outhold kicker.

Chances are, your 10 V is not just 10 volts. If you are using a DVM, it
will not react fast enough to show you the total amount of voltage that
is there for a short period of time. Even a needle style meter is not
the fast enough to react in most cases.

Thanks for the suggestions. The 10v was seen on a fluke with a min/max mode but I am not sure how well that feature works in this instance. I do see some sparking from the score motor when it cycles so I guess I have more work to do for sure. I have been advancing it by hand with the power off to inspect the contacts .

I agree with this. Assuming you have the proper coil on the kicker,
it's a dirty/out of adjustment motor switch. Possible outhole relay
switch too, but I'm better motor switch.

Thanks guys. I cleaned the score motor contacts at 4B which controls the kicker and it seems to have made a huge improvement.
