I have searched google for any info on this but to no avail. I have a
Street Fighter that the sound is not working on. I have checked the
voltages and they test ok, almost right on. The aux board LED comes on and
stays on and the main sound board LED never comes on. What do these LED's
mean or what is there use?? The manual does not really say a thing about
them.

Any ideas on what to look for?? There is a buzz coming from the speaker
that gets louder as you turn up the volume, but never any sound or speech.

Thanks in advance for any help. Also, I cannot find a free-play setting.
Is there such thing on these games??

Thanks,
Dave

Make sure the speakers are hooked up correctly.

Yes there is.

It is inside the coin door on the left.

I forget exactly which combination of the two black buttons on the inside of
the door and the flipper and credit buttons to get the menu you need.

Should also be indicated in the manual.

Sorry I can't help more but been several months since I sold my last
gottlieb.

Hi Otto -
Thanks for your response. I have looked in the manual and cannot find any
free play setting. Also, I do not have two black buttons on the inside of
the coin door. There is just one button for adjustments, one button for
tournament play and one for volume control.

Also, the speakers are hooked up properly. I did check this and everything
is fine. I think it has something to do with the sound boards because of
the way the LED's are acting...

Can anyone tell me what the LED's are supposed to be doing when operating
properly???

Thanks,
Dave

The LEDs both flash at opposing times (they toggle). Either the sound
board isn't running or the aux. sound board is pulling the sound board down.

We will start repairing the full Gottlieb system 3 range of boards
within the next 3 weeks if you need to get repairs done and can wait
this amount of time.

The free play is on a switch inside the coin door.

You have a buzz noise from the speaker so you should have good
amplification.

The LED lights should flash back and forth. Other than that they mean
nothing.

Try disconnection the speech board from the sound board.

If still no sound then the easy place to start it with the EPROM'S and the
RAM.

Free play mode is done by setting the tournament mode switch on,
hitting the test button, and then setting free-play to on. To keep
it in this mode, you have to leave the tournament mode switch on.

(A few weeks back, someone posted this info here -- I'm using it
with my Stargate pin).

I can not remember which combination of adjustments and tournament button
are used but you are in the right spot.

The sys 3 machines also require you to use the flipper and start buttons to
toggle through the menus.

It is not as straightforward as the williams menus but it is there.

Open the coin door and set the tournament switch to 'on', the tournament
adjustments will now appear on the display. Use the left flipper button
to select the adjustment (free play etc.) and the right flipper button
to change the adjustment (on/off etc.). Once changed the adjustment is
in affect (IE, it's a real-time edit).

Yes, Dave, you can set SF2 to freeplay.

If you search on the web for "SF2 Pinball" or "street fighter pinball"
or whatever, my page usually comes up near the top.

Here's the info from my page:

http://www.geocities.com/pinballjim2000/sf2/freeplay.html

-----------------------------------
Setting SF2 For Freeplay

I've been asked this so many times by so many people that have found
my
website, that I've decided to write it up here.

Yep, there's a free play option on the Gottlieb System 3s. Don't
dispair,
lots of people have trouble with it... in fact, my Stargate had a tiny
credit button mounted on it because they didn't know how to set the
freeplay!

All you had to do is open up the coin door, and on the left hand side
you
will see a little PCB. There's a slider switch to put the machine into
tournament mode. Put the machine into tournament mode, and a menu will
pop up on the DMD. (if it's already in tournament mode, I think a
quick slide
back and forth on the switch will bring the menu up if it doesn't come
up
automatically when you open the coin door)

What you want to do is set Free Play to YES and set everything else to
Normal. Then just close the coin door. Can't remember if the menu goes
away or not.. if not, just power off and back on and you're good to
go.
The start button should now flash during attract mode.

As you play the machine more, there's a nice feature with that
tournament
mode. You can customize the settings to make it harder or easier in
both
regular mode and tournament mode. Essentially, you can have two
variations of the rule set that you can quickly toggle between. You
lose the
freeplay when you're not in tournament mode, but it's just something
to keep in
mind.

Personally, I have everything set factory but have the match feature
turned off, specials award extra balls, and my extra ball levels are
150mil,
300mil, and 450mil and have the self-adjusting turned off.

Hope this helps someone!
