Hehehehe... Spending some money on marketing -- always a good thing!

(Though I about fell over backwards at that combo casette tape and B&W TV box! 1989
called, and they want their jam box back. :) )

Solid rumor is that the NEXT game will have a different boardset.

Continuity, this video DOESN'T have it. It hate that it is the first

If the the TF promo videos taught us anything, its that you can't bet on everything seen in the video to be included in the production game.....

Makes sense that the NEXT Stern game will have a new board set,
probably after something 'wonderful' has unfolded to inspire it.

When did they add that nice neon sign over the delivery door. They
must only bring it out and hang it for special occasions :)

Also for all those complaining about the cost of pins these days you
can see where all the money goes.......those fancy effects in the

Some high school / college kids could do those effects for nothing.

Pause at :20, enjoy. This video is cool, it reminds me of the
Transformers video. Remember how cool that one was also? By the
looks of this promo it appears there will be some magnets in the
game. Also, at the end of the promo there are three balls floating
over that guy's hand. That could be anti magnet making the balls
hover over the playfield, kinda like Dracula but in the air instead of
on the playfield. New innovation, FINALLY!!!

Way sick of these themes but at least it's based on the comic rather
than a movie. That's a gigantic step forward for Stern - it's
practically mind-blowing that they would do a license this "far out."
I'm not even being sarcastic.

After WOZ destroys their next game in sales maybe they'll be willing
to take even bigger chances.

I am really hoping that Xmen will be the second fruit that the Stern-JJP competition will bring to the hobby. Competition is a very, very, good thing.

I can't wait for my WOZ, but have every confidence that Stern will bring their A game for this. I have not been a big fan of Stern movie based art as of late, but th last pin that I thought had great non movie art was TSPP, which is very much comic book style. Which I think this pin will be. The video doesn't show too much other than a bit of swagger on Stern's part: they've got an A title with Xmen, and they know it! I'll bet they do good things with it.

The wheel with the fan blade edges ( Diverters?) looks like it might
be an interesting device. You can see it as one of the pieces that
sticks to John.

Looks like its to the right of the POPbumpers on the design page.

Not sure but looks as if there is a TOTAN lamp type device on the
plans as well?

I think assuming a metal part that Lonnie had on his desk (for the
sake of it being a metal part in the video) is going to used in the game
is a bit silly.

If it was something shown on the game (which wasn't even shown) or
even in the CAD pictures it would be understandable, but anything else
being called misleading is crazy. Are you expecting scissors to be used
as a playfield toy also? THEY'RE IN THE VIDEO!!! THEY BETTER BE IN
THERE!!! :p

Yeah right, like they'e using metal ramps over at Stern anymore. At the
rate they're going, metal in the ramps would be the toy, and everything
else would be bare bones.

The theme excites me, as I hate all this movie tie in crap. If it truly
is based on the comic book, and not the movies. This will give the
artwork a chance to be cool looking, and not just whipped up in
photoshop (looking).

It's been less than a year since Stern used metal ramps on a game
(Transformers). They have really turned into cut rate cheap skates in
the past almost-a-year. They are really going down hill.

Not like Williams. Now that I think of it neither of my Williams games
had metal ramps either. As a matter of fact they didn't even put
protectors on their plastic ramps and they were usually busted all to
hell. I don't really understand that because Williams could do no
wrong.

The only game I've had with a metal ramp is Baywatch. I guess that is
why Sega was always famous for it's high quality and well done pins.

I think the complaint is more at the recent missing wireform returns. Wireform on a return shot just seems to give the shot a much nicer feel, making the playfield as a whole seem so much more solid.

A purely plastic shot can be a little sterile and low rent if it's simply a turn-around-straight-back-to-you shot. Some Wms games had them too, but usually because the shot was so elaborate wireform wouldn't work (ie. insanity falls).

Stern is doing a lot right, and they have now built a nice little core group of LE buyers who aren't really worried about +/- $500 it seems. So if I were Stern, I'd look into making the shots the best they can possibly be, not just the cheapest clear injection molded ramp out of China so they can make an extra $15/game.

The print quality of the art package is what Stern needs to step up on this one. Using comic art is the smartest move Stern has made in years, hopefully it will be printed with a little better process (once again, with an LE price structure it doesn't make sense to try and cheapen out on the printing resolution).

X-men has the potential to be a huge hit, particularly with the comic art package. Everyone is expecting a great playfield from Borg (he's had a LOT of time to work on this one, maybe the longest he's ever had?). The Lonnie ruleset probably has some people a little concerned, it would concern me but I fully expect Lonnie to continue to mold his programming into more with what collectors love (KEF rulesets). Overall, this should be a great package and should sell extremely well. Stern is knocking it out of the park with the licensing, let's see if they can do a little better with the build/print/programming/playtesting.

Agreed. Stern HAS to step it up. This game CANNOT be seen by the pinball community as simply "Tron Redux". Especially since it sounds like Stern will still be using a platform one generation behind JJP (reportedly their FINAL pin on that platform... Can I get a confirm?).

At this WAAAAY early stage, based on what has been jigsawed together, it looks a bit too Tron-ish.

But who knows at this stage?

I say again, Stern HAS to be careful: they're not the only game in town anymore, and people on an ever increasingly tight budget are going to be less apt to be seduced by a theme if the INNOVATION isn't there (I think WOZ illustrates nicely that INNOVATION>THEME, though both together is most desirable of course [and to many, WOZ's theme is GREAT, obviously. I just don't think it could have carried the sales from an unknown company by itself on the strength of its license without reassurances that the game itself would actually bring new ideas to pinball]).

I'm convinced Stern has the CAPABILITY to really bring some genuine innovation to Xmen and not rely on the license to sell a rehash of a mainstream, but already used, design. Whether Stern has the CULTURE necessary at this point to break with their tradition and actually do that has yet to be seen (and as a pin fan, I really hope they do).

I'd love it if none of my games had plastic ramps. Its a lot of work to
properly clean them, and occasionally remove them for flame polishing.
And as we all know, they are expensive to replace when they do get

Theme to the regular homeowner is the number 1 care about. I owned a
retail store. Play is very secondary if a real care about. 2nd is
typically maintenance. WOZ is a polarizing theme. You either like
it or hate it. From the people I have talked to (Which is alot) most
can't stand it and would not want it in their house. I even talked to
another person today; who is a hard core B/W collector; who said the
family said "Absolutely not" in this house. I was "shocked" to say
the least. Nothing against the great team Jack has formed.

I do agree on Culture but the Stern team has a pretty good thing going
right now.
