Hi all,

I posted about a week ago about a problem with my DE Star Wars. When
the ball goes in the trough and activates the switch that should start
the multi-ball, nothing happens. After a short time, the game goes
through its kickers and get the ball out of the trough. General
thought out there is that the switch was bad or needing adjustment. I
replaced the switch and the diode. Still have the same problem. I
tested the switch with a ball and it activates that switch and
afterwards the next switch down the line in the trough. Any other
ideas or thoughts would be appreciated.

When you say the switches activate are you telling us you see them
triggered in test mode? Or just by hearing the click?

It's a very simple circuit. The switches are the only possible problem
*IF*, as you say, the game itself operates the solenoids in search mode.
This means the CPU, 6821 PIA, 740x TTL, 2n440x predriver, TIP120 driver,
wiring and solenoid itself are all good.

The only thing it can be is a bad switch. The easiest way to confirm the
switch and it's wiring is in switch tests in test mode. If the switch
doesn't show up in the tests then it's the switch itself or it's wiring.

Are you testing the correct switch? You may have a bad switch on the
popper solenoid itself. This is very common. Again, go into test mode,
switch levels, and roll a ball onto the popper. Get a sound indicating
closure? No? There's your bad switch.

Cliffy,

That was the answer. I was messing with the wrong switch. I know just
enough about fixing my pins to be dangerous. It was a bad switch on
the popper solenoid. Actually I think I can adjust it and have it work
fine. I feel like I got a bargin on my cliffy protectors now that I
bought for the SW and also my Safe Cracker with the tech support.
Thank you for the help.

Excellent! You've taken your first step into a larger world, Luke :)
