Most challenging, lotsa drop targets, bagatelle toy, multi-ball, best
art (including a lizard man and not just 1 but 2 scantily clad women!)
= BEST CLASSIC STERN EVER.

I've never played Lightning but I'm going to assume that it is a very
close second.

Best classic Stern thread, what is this about the tenth time?
Regardless, most classic Sterns are great games.

Now Catacomb, challenging yes, best classic Stern? No, at least for
me, not by a long shot. Bagatelle ruins the game for me.

Lightning, no as well. My choice would be Seawitch, followed by Star
Gazer.

Love my Catacomb, and my Stars is right there too.

I'd have to say orbitor 1, just because it's the most original pinball
ever made.

Best? I don't know about that, but I am a big fan of Catacomb and
would agree that it is in the top five of early Sterns. I think I'm
with Brian in the Seawitch camp. I haven't played Stargazer or some of
the more obscure early Sterns, but Seawitch is my favorite so far. I
also enjoy Big Game, Meteor, and Nine Ball. Love the one your with...

Catacomb for me! Many great vintage Sterns but, Catacomb is #1 in my
opinion.

I like Catacomb. I "had" one. Not the greatest Stern in my book but
your opinion is....well!!! Whatever you like.

Like Brian said the bagatelle ruined it for me as well. I had a
lightning and trident as well. What I still have is a Meteor,
Nineball, Big Game, Magic, and Split Second.

Cheetah? very fun game and great artwork. Pretty much a one trick
(collect bonus) pony for me.

It is difficult saying anything bad about the classic stern era as I
am a huge fan.

Well, Catacomb is a great game and I love the Bagatelle like NOT so
many others. I think it is a great addition to any large collection.
(If Scott would make it that you earn the multi ball on your 3rd ball
if you complete 4 colors during Bagatelle that would be
KEWL !!!.. ) .The top 4 are Quicksilver, Seawtich, Nineball and
Stargazer. I think that is pretty much unanimous. Sometimes QS
doesn't make the list but if you play mine it would. Awesome game.

The Beauty is I have all 5 in great condition all on legs so....I love
them all and I think they all should be together.

But I can start naming more that I also love and own. Each have their
own place in a large collection. Galaxy, Gamatron, Nugent, Cheetah,
Stingray, Meteor, Orbitor and I know there will be more commenting.
As for 1 BEST classic Stern. Not so.....There is a batch that is the
best that is for sure. I say you have to own 5 or 10 of them to
appreciate the diversity. 1980 was AWESOME.....

Well said Bill. Throw in a couple of classic Bally's and your all
set.

I enjoyed going to Scotts house and schooling him and Dr. Dave on the
classics :)

C'mon, Kevin. You lack the experience to make that call. :)

Sorry, dude, but I *know* you've never played Cheetah or Quicksilver.
Have you played Star Gazer? Lectronamo? :) And Lightning! Oh,
Lightning, how I love thee!

Catacomb is really cool, but it's not the best classic Stern. Not even
close.

Keep playing, Kev!

He needs to add some classic Williams also!!

Catacomb...aka the Toast is a cool game...I am not sure which I like
better between it and Stargazer, but I have The Toast....and will
eventually one day have a Stargazer!! :-)

So i should bring my newly aquired nine ball to Expo, since it seems
to be a classic Stern fav?
I'm thinking of bringing strato flite and amazing spiderman also.
Perhaps also my EM mata Hari for which Phoebe is bringing the freshed
redone backglass!

Not sure what your meaning of unanimous is, but from the opinions
posted here, it's about as far from unanimous as you can get ! To
add my 2 cents to the debate, I had a Seawitch and I couldn't get rid
of it fast enough. Found it to be one of the most boring pins I've
ever played. Have a Catacomb and StarGazer at the moment, and find
the StarGazer a superior game. Would trade the Catacomb for a
Lightning in a heartbeat. So I guess my top 4 would be Lightning,
StarGazer, Catacomb and Cheeetah.

Glenn, you just let me know when you're done.... I don't have a
Lightning for you, but I'll have cash!
