Come on out to the Pacific Pinball Museum for a special day of Pinball
fun as we celebrate PPM’s newest acquisition, X-Men, with a superhero
themed pinball tournament.
Entry Fee: Entry is FREE with Pacific Pinball Museum Admission. No
Groupons or other discount coupons are allowed for this event. Gift
Certificates and Club Cards are OK.
There will also be an optional $10 side-pot. The side pot will be
awarded to the top 4 side pot players.
When: Sunday, August 26th.
Where: Pacific Pinball Museum, 1510 Webster Street, Alameda, CA. From
SF, take BART to 12th Street. Take the 58A bus to Alameda. If you see
Citibank on the left, it’s the next block. If you see Nations on the
left, you just passed it.
What Time: 12 PM start. Players may register as late as 2 PM. Finals
at 5 PM or as soon as possible after Qualifying.
Qualifying Format: Wildcard. There are three tournament games: X-Men,
Ironman and Superman. Play each game one time. After playing all three
games, you get to pick one game to replay for a better score (a.k.a
“wildcard” game). If your wildcard* game score is worse than your
original score, your original score stands.
Your performance across all three games determines if you advance to the
Finals.
Finals Format: The top 12 players overall will compete in the Open
Finals with the top 4 earning a bye to the semi-final round. The next 8
novice** players will play in the Novice Final.
In the Finals, players are arranged into 4-player groups by their
qualifying position. Each group plays all games and 4 points are
awarded for 1st place, 2 for 2nd, 1 for 3rd and 0 for 4th. The two
players with the highest points in their group advance to the next
round.
Prizes: Plaques and prizes will be awarded to top 4 in each division.
Free Stuff: Free Mac and Cheese! Also, each player who enters will
receive a genuine Flynn’s Arcade token while they last. We’ll also
raffle off some cool stuff.
*Wildcard Rules - Wildcard game must be played no later than one hour
prior to the end of qualifying, i.e. 4 pm and not until the player
completes his/her normal qualifying games. Players are responsible for
arriving early enough and completing their games on time.
**Novice - A Novice player cannot have a World Pinball Ranking better
than 500, cannot ever have won a novice tournament that awarded WPPR
Points, cannot ever have finished 3rd or better in an Open Finals
tournament that awarded WPPR points, cannot ever have placed 3rd or
better in a local league. (Most likely if you’re unfamiliar with the
above, you qualify for novice. These rules are in place to prevent
sandbagging.)
