Hey all. Just gearing up on my third restore (prior TZ and IJ) - on a
TAF. For the most part, it has the usual need for polishing parts,
regraining metal, overall cleaning, etc.

One issue i notice that i have not come across before - in some spots
(espcially at the thing hand kickout) there is what someone referred
to as playfield "Crazing". In the gray painted area, it looks like the
paint on the playfield is "crinkled" causing spiderlike cracks. Seems
to be smooth - but looks a little rough. I think there is a spot by
the right outlane too. Other then that, besides some magnet burn the
machine is in good shape (happy to say the cab decals are really
nice).

Does anyone have advice on how to 'restore' this area of crazing
(besides a new playfield - want to see if i can save it to
perfection)? I doubt it - but thought i would ask. Do others have the
same issue?

Not as bad as i thought (its always worse the first time i see
something like that) - in that it looks like some magic eraser / good
scrubbing may remove some of that dirt? But it seems like "crazing" to
me or some lifting - any thoughts on its classification (its not ball
swirl marks right?) and how would you attack it so as not to kill the
paint?

I think it would be called crazing or planking.
I haven't restored a playfield so can't help there but did have a wh20
with the problem.
The playfield basically looks as though the area was sanded and then
painted to cover up the area.

Taylor - does it look like that? I would be suprised if someone took
the time to sand it down and paint over it - i could be wrong of
course in my limited experience and naive... It looks like wear to me
(natural wear).

I would say the areas you pictured have pretty insignificant crazing.
I could actually feel the crazing in my Wh20.
This is what would have called for sanding to level it out before
touch up.

An update here.... magic eraser and 90% alcohol got the dirt out, and,
the "wear" underneath is very insignifcant.

magic eraser is incredible.
