You can't get someone to flip hamburgers for $5.50/hr these days!
Heck, to be a grunt worker in the mall this holiday season pays
$10/hr.

I have a friend who has an old pinball machine that doesn't work. He will
pay you $5.50/hr to work on it.
Thank you.
DAVELOCO!
Hey Dave
I'll pay YOU $5.50 per hour to work on my pins. I'll bring them over this
afternoon. How many do you want? hehehe :-) Oh yeah, some of them are DE.
Is that OK? Oh yeah, I've got a Peugeot diesel that needs work too. I'll
drop it off in your driveway. Maybe you can get one of your buddies to work
on it?
Thanks, see you soon. LMAO

Pinball repair is a highly technical skill. I don't expect you will find
anyone to work on pins for $5.50 an hour. My suggestion is this: post your
question on the newsgroup and you may get some free help. Sometimes this
works, and sometimes it doesn't. If you have no experience with electronics,
your best bet would be to have someone else look at the game, assuming that it
needs more than a fuse to get it working again.
Well, good luck!!

Fact is, there are a lot of local pricing differences. The machines will
charge what the market will bear.
My OXO (1974) will run on two nickels for 5 balls if I set it up that way
(maybe even one), when many new games at that time were set up for one
quarter and three balls. The flyer says "Recommended Minimum Pricing: 2/25
cents -- 3 ball play"
Coin op manufacturer's knew this. That is why they put in so many pricing
options.
Payrolled skilled pintechs here make about $10/hr here and not many years
ago made $6-7 and out of that they have to run a car to get to work.
Learning ones (2-3 years of experience) make $6 now and have to hitch a ride
to go home to their 3 roommates in a 2 bedroom apartment.
There are a lot of places in the country where wages lag way behind general
costs and I am in one of them. This means people here don't have much
disposable income to spend on pins or anything else. Biggest retailers here:
Wal-mart, Big Lot's and Dollar General.
In areas like these, one will not find many $4,000 machines.
GO STERN!

Yanno, I think ALL of ya'll are twisted in the head. If you are
actually a fan of pinball, and love what you do, you would do it for FREE, as
I do occasionally. (No, obviously because of that, fixing pins is NOT my
lifestyle.)
