Ok, its been a good time, people have owned their Iron Man pins for
awhile...does this pin stand the test of time? Are you still loving/
hating it? (me its love hate cause this thing is STINGEY)
Is it a long term keeper?

I'm testing the waters cause I may end up with one...so very curious
to hear your thoughts

well.. i didnt have it for a long time but.. outside of its short ball
time and difficulty, it was wash rinse repeat .. kinda got sick of
monger so set him really hard to start which made it better.

I've had mine for 1 1/2 years, still play it quite a bit. One of my favorite games ever, it will make you a better player. Still haven't managed to beat all 5 guys at the same time to get Do or Die Multiball. Even after this time Do or Die (normal) and Jericho are still difficult to achieve and beat.

+1 one of my all time favorites. Fast fun good call outs and the just
one more factor. The prices reflect the love. This is not world poker
tour. The price remains high cause the pin rocks. One of the last to go
ever.

Have had mine about 5 months and its still the goto pin.
If I only have say 15min for a pinball fix its perfect.
Thats enough time for say 4 games on 3 ball. :)

In my limited experience it seemed to boil down to shoot left orbit to light
monger; shoot center to start monger; bash monger to start multiball; play
out multiball; repeat. Everything else just seemed to happen on its own
except the ramps. Then hit them a few times to qualify the wiz mode.

It was fun, but not A-list by any stretch, IMO.

That's exactly what you would do if you wanted a low score. :) Just hitting the monger by itself doesn't really buy you anything at all. The trick is stack things with it, like get fast scoring + pop bumpers + war machine stacked with it. Or start fast scoring + whiplash + war machine + bogey + pop bumpers for mega points. Iron Man is not about completing each item by itself, it's about stacking as much stuff as you can at one time to light up the scoreboard. Similar to the way BSD is about trying to get all three multiballs stacked at the same time. And on top of that there are 2 wizard modes and a mini wizard mode in the game, all to keep you coming back for more. I suspect very very few people have gotten Do or Die multiball on factory.

I burnt out on mine at about 1500 plays. I still think it's cool though - great music, good flow, fun to shoot, the magnets and kickback keep it lively ...but after I played it as many times as I did, I just felt like "there's nothing else to see here" ...I had it next to Avatar, which has a lot of similar rules & stacking..but it's just a tad more robust in the rules dept and that became my keeper.

Great fun, intense battle with clear goals, great sound, great callouts, great use of shaker motor, great artwork, awesome flow..

the game looks bare but it is simply the most "fun" game there is IMHO, and i have played all the best. I think its was a perfect storm for Borg.. really hit it out of the park.

If you want a 2 hour game, buy TSPP or LOTR but if you want an adrenaline rush you cant get any better than Iron Man..

I agree with this, after owning mine for 1.5 years, it is still my go to
pin 99% of the time.

I can usually fit a few games in a reasonable amount of time (10-15
minutes), every once in a while I get on an epic roll and put on a
single 10-20 minute game.

Compared to LoTR, which I enjoy but the stars have to align pretty well
for me to put maximum effort into that one. It is hard to play when the
kids are asleep, as one is a light sleeper and the games are under her
bedroom; its also hard to play when they are awake as it is often a 20
minute commitment for even an average game.

I enjoy all of my games, otherwise I would get rid of them. But Iron
Man and Paragon get most of my love right now, and I am a better player
for it.

Nah, I don't think so. It's cool that you and others do, but not enough
there for me to list it with the top tier. Also, I'm not bagging on the
game, it just didn't "blow me away" like the best games (to me) do.

IMO!

Don't like Im myself, as it always felt like it needed an upper rh
flipper, and felt too simple in play, but the rules are hard, which
offsets it's crappy pf design. I am biased as I clearly remember
Stern's BS campaign of less is more approach and this was their cheapest
late model designed with a checkbook.

So far it has been. I've had mine for about 9 months and I am not the
least bit sick of it. My poor Tron LE is not getting enough love
because of IM :)

I had mine for 1 1/2 years before I sold it. It was a fun but frustrating game. I really did enjoy the game- in a collection with two others It got played the most- which is most likely the result of the short ball times. Going to get xmen to replace it!

It's really addictive. It kinda reminds me of a modern version of an early SS Bally game. I find myself playing it often even though when I step back and look at all it has to offer, it doesn't appear to be that great of a game. And yet it's the one I walk up to play first a lot of the time. Part of that might just be because it's a quick game without a lot of grinding, so you basically know within a minute or two whether you're having a great game or a terrible game. None of the shots feel particularly satisfying, none of the rules are all that interesting, and I find the sound annoying (especially "TONY!" and the squeals of the drones) but as an overall package it still manages to have that hard-to-define "one more game" quality. The music is pretty cool. The General dude barking out rules at you is lame.

I have one on location and it does pretty well for me, but I can't imagine paying $4k+ just to have one for home use. I'm really surprised that it sells for as much as it does and that it has suddenly become a must-get by a lot of the high-end collector types who seem to value looks, theme, "modability" etc over gameplay. I would think those people would hate it.

Well, I'm firmly in the "I just don't get it" camp on this one,
wouldn't walk across the street on a nice summer day to play one,
wasn't impressed when I played it at the launch party, and my opinion
hasn't changed since! I'm glad some like it, but one of Stern's
weakest efforts IMO.

I'd say the game somewhat polarizes opinions similar to what BSD does. Its a simple game that is hard. Fast paced and easy to understand rules, but hard to accomplish in actual game play.

Fortunately it has a better theme than BSD, and therefore is more widely accepted, but recently BSD has gained a lot of interest now that others are realizing the "just one more game" aspect of it.

I have both BSD and IM and both are great games.

Plasticman.... It's a surfboard! Nothing but wide open spaces.... Like
Montana! Easy to maintain on route and rarely breaks down, not much to
break really.

I have seen an odd issue with mine. If the ball doesn't make it out of
the trough on the 1st shot I have 4 balls in the trough, only two
register on the switch test. Many times the ball search is useless b/c
it still won't kick the ball out. I cleaned the coil, plunger and
associated parts. I turned the coils up from normal to hard. We will
see if that fixes the issue.

Ck

PS. It does earn ok so my comments about depth of rules, game layout,
and build quality may not be totally relevenet.
