What's everyone's opinion on Pachinko machines? Do you have them in
your game room? Is there an active collector community for them as
well? Or do regular pinball people look down upon Pachinko?

They are cool, but loud as hell unless you get the things to adjust
them... which I still need to do sometime! Beyond that, I like them
and have two in my collection right now, but probably won't add more
than one more ever. They simply aren't as cool as I think pinball
machines are! (or arcade machines for that matter!)

These machines really have no default volume control? That's really
odd.

Most of them have a volume control. They are loud!, Super Loud!! or
LUDICROUSLY LOUD!!! Even when you install a proper volume
control....there isn't any way to quiet a dozen steal balls that are
bouncing on nails and pecking on glass.

I have 2 pachinko machines along with 2 Japanese skill stop slot
(pachislo) machines. They are nice to look at and fun to mess around
with occasionally. I mostly have them because of their themes (Marvel
Heroes, and Star Blazers). Some collectors can't get enough of them.
They are a lot cheaper than pins and a lot less maintenance. They also
seem to be very reliable. I rarely hear of anyone at pachitalk having
any problems out of any machines that they have.

They also have very diverse themes. So I can see collectors of other
things getting the pachinko of things they like to collect. They have
pachinkos based on Elvis, Michieal Jackson, Freddy vs Jason, Jaws,
Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Looney Tunes, Spider-Man, Marvel Heroes
ect...ect...ect... They even have a pachinko with a pinball theme.

You know if a person had a Williams Indiana Jones and an IJ4....it
would only look right to have an Indiana Jones pachinko sitting
between them. I bet if they would release a Twilight Zone pachinko
that a lot of TZ owners would pick them up as a deluxe accessory to
put next to their pin.

All and all they are cool to look at and a nice diversion for a
little while, but not nearly as fun as a pin.

I have a LOTR one and it's pretty awesome. My kid loves it and it's
fun for something different. Mine has a volume control but the balls
on the glass is still pretty loud. I can't imagine being in an actual
parlor in japan. That would be nerve racking.

Yes...I forgot about the kid factor. Most kids would rather play a
pachinko than a pin. Strange but true.

Got a Looney Tunes one just to see what it was all about. It's a very
beautiful thing... but, it's pointless. Kinda like a slot machine. No
real skill involved. You just kind of adjust a knob and watch the
balls fall. Frankly, I wish mine was gone. Beautiful to look at but
ultimately a waste of space. If you're looking for a game to play....
something that involves skill - stick with Pinball or get a new
Gameboy. If you're looking for a great light show that will wake up
your neighbors a few blocks away every time you mess with it... get a
pachinko machine.....

I disagree that there's no skill involved. I consistently get payouts
better than other folks in the house. Got to develop a rhythm and
then adjust force of the pull up or down until you can generally hit
what you want.

I think there is a place for pachinko in a pin gameroom, for sure.
Everybody seems drawn to my pachinkos.

Well before anybody jumps down my throat I will say there is far, far
more chance in them than any pinball machine. When I say you
"generally hit what you want" I mean that you increase your chances of
hitting what you want because the balls are falling in the general
area.

It's a gambling machine in the east. Clearly chance is the big
factor.

I've got one in my gameroom but I also have a couple arcades and a few
slots as well. Pins dominate the space but I like diversity.

They are sickenly loud in stock mode. There is a volume control but
the lowest setting is more than any house could handle. Normally,
they are blasting over many many pachinko machines with all those
steel balls bouncing around. The game itself is quite noisy just
because of the balls and the hammer, but it wouldnt have stayed
without a real volume control mod. It's fun and an interesting
talking piece.

Oh, here's a link to a thread over there that has the machine in the
cabinet I built...

Jaz, not a public link. Can you post the photos elsewhere?

Nice looking cabinet. It's pretty tall, but I like the fact that you
have a lot of room up top to pour the balls in. The windows on the
front so you can see your ball levels is really nice also..

Yeah, exactly. To compare the sound, the quietest setting is equally
as loud if not louder than a pin with it's volume cranked to 100%.

I have two EM pachinko machines. One I've owned since I was around 10
(I'm now 42). I played the hell out of it for a few years when I was a
kid, but now they are collecting dust since I now have pinball
machines.

Wow.. nice design! I was wanting to see some designs that implemented
a larger trough.
