I wont say what happens , don't want to spoil it. Incredible.
Mike
Game's been out for 6 years, dude....everyone knows the machine goes
apeshit. :)
Greg
Yeah, and it isn't THAT great...everything fires off randomly and then
it all goes dead. Meh.
Your wife can get to DTR? Holy crap!!
Sam
My dad was over and was on the final shot when he struck the post on
the ring ramp and it went SDTM. I really felt kinda bad that he didn't
get to finish the mode, but he was still pretty fired up all the same
from getting so close.
It's even mroe fun when you can do it with double scoring running :)
You struck gold! lol.
It's even more fun than that when it is the last thing you do before
reaching Valinor :-)
Ok then what IS a great 'you beat me' moment in a pinball? Only one I
can think of that's better is MM when the castle goes crazy and then
implodes, but then I think the castle is brilliant even when it's not
doing that.

BK: "I cannot slay you...you win." Still my favorite.
John
If you havent done it you should at least go watch someone who can.
Mike
congrats on your achievement.
so what if the subject has been posted. It was *your* first
I'm in the same boat. I hadn't played a single game of LOTR until it
arrived last week, so I have no idea what I'm doing....but it's an
awesome game none the less.
Here's a vid of me playing, blowing thru a ton of modes and destroying
the ring. I added "tutorial" annotations to help out new players!

Destroy the ring is 8 minutes in.
Greg
does something happen when you get all the gifts of the elves also ???
anyone know this
Are you using the upgraded flipper coils?
Sam
Yup....although, my original flipper coils were pretty strong too. I
never had the issues people complained about. I had some other
issues w/ my LOTR flippers (they felt kinda "loose and floppy") and
one of the coil tabs was kinda damaged, so I went ahead and rebuilt
using the Pinball Life coils.

I don't get that kind of action with the ring ramp. Damn, I might have
to upgrade!
Sam
Guess you had to be there. Congrats on achieving it, and thanks for
the vid. It doesn't seem all that great to me, although if you're
actually playing it I'm sure it's WAY better. I think the ball in
play should stay in play after destroying it. That ball was perfectly
staged on the right habitrail post to be appreciated and enjoyed. Why
drain it?? Keep it out there like a trophy and shine the brightest
light of the game on it. I'm assuming the game just fires another
ball into the shooter lane when the next part of the gameplay starts
after DTR is completed, unless it's just game over. Personally, I
would want the same ball there and see how long I can ride that one
out. And, random firing of all the playfield mechs is just, well,
random. I do like how it says "you have done very well" though. That
provides a nice sense of achievement.
It's a great moment!
It feels so good to Destroy the ring!
First time I played DTR was with a friend, my friend wanted to turn
the game off cause he thought it was broken :))
nice vid btw!
My game has the original coils and is a first run and I don't have any
problems with them, they stay strong!
When I finally did it and it was the flap flippers show etc. I was very
disappointed too. I really don't care for that kind of 'show' - I'd
rather it stop the ball, do something on the dmd and play cools
sounds/light show, but the machine flapping the flippers on its own I
dunno, not impressive. I understand the vacation jackpot on whitewater
does the same thing, so yet another thing about that game I don't like.
The actual staging UP to destroying the ring is cool as hell though,
with the ball hanging there and the sound effects.

Yeah, after you do it it does its 'show' and you loose the ball, but it
gives you another back.

If you collect all the gifts of the elves you can start "There and
Back Again" which is a mini wizard mode that has completely different
music than anything heard up until this point in the game. It's sort
of a medieval kind of carnival music. TABA can also be completed (hit
the ring, hit a lit shot - repeat for all shots) for 5M points and a
light show.
Destroying Balrog when completing the FOTR multiball (hit Balrog, hit
a ramp repeat 9X) and hearing Gandalf yelling "YOU SHALL NOT PASS!!"
is also a blast and will give you "the show" just as when you DTR. I
think I actually prefer destroying the Balrog more than DTR, mostly
because it happens less often for me (about 3 DTR for each time I
complete that MB).

You don't need all the gifts for TABA...you just need to have played
through all the ring modes. I love the music in that mode. Here's a
vid I made playing TABA

Greg
TABA is when you have played all the modes. You don't have to have
completed them so it has nothing to do with getting all the gifts of the
elves.
Sam
The seventh gift awards Super Ring Frenzy Multiball.
Yes, when you get all the gifts you have to complete another of the
standard modes to light gift of the elves again. Then collect the gift
and you get "Super Ring Frenzy Multiball". Same rules as super ring
frenzy but you get to do it with a four ball multiball! As long as you
have more than one ball in play you can continue to get the ring bonus
at the center ramp! You can collect over 100 million if you get this
mode! I've only done it once or twice in about 500 games.
This is what I get for posting way too early in the morning.
Just playing the modes gets you to TABA as others have correctly
stated. My apologies.
