I found a guy who has a TZ and is wanting $800 for it. It turns on and
play's but the playfield is really, really, really dirty and has two
dime wear spots by the flippers. He said he is tired of messing with.
Every time he fixes one thing on the playfield something else on the
playfield breaks. I asked if there was anything major wrong with it and
he said no. He said it has been pretty much just things breaking on the
playfield one after another. He said it was in a bar on free play so it
has gotten allot of use. There is two holes on the front were the
security bar was. Is there anything I specific for this machine that I
should check out or be aware of before I decide to buy it?

Thanks

um.. at $800 it's pretty much a steal. Wear can be fixed. Dirt cleaned.
I recently picked one up off route and was more than happy to pay $2k
for it.

For $800 why worry about anything ? Boards and parts are worth more than
that. Give it a thorough shopping and play it. LTG :)

Buy it! If you decide you don't want it later, you can easily make all
the money back + change by parting it out.

Somebody who has to ask a question like this doesn't deserve a $2000
TZ, much less an $800 TZ.

Totally unfair. My first nontrivial purchase was a TZ, I was a
complete newbie, and I paid in the same range for it. I had no way of
knowing it was a complete steal until I asked.

Not unfair. He either found RGP or knows about RGP . . . Google is
what, two clicks away? If he knows enough to ask RGP prior to the
purchase, he knows what he's getting. IMHO he's just bragging.

Well, you're right that he could have searched, but most newbies never
think to search. More should. But IMHO you're just jealous. Sure
sounds that way.

How hard is it to find a pf for tz? how hard is it to find a perfect cc
pf for tz? Chris at PFR told me that was a good deal. I dont need to
sell it I can put it on my game I am offering the guy a favor and if I
were to sell it I would have to send the other back to pfr and if its
as bad as he says it would cost 1000 to have it redone.

Favor? I guess if it's worth $500 for him to get a cc pf quickly, then
that would be a favor.

I'm figuring $500 since he could disassemble his pf (which he has to do
anyway) and send it to Chris for the $1,000 you just quoted ... but you
want $1,500 for yours (plus his pf) netting you $500 when it's all said
and done.

What car dealership do you work at?

Well I got it home and it is cleaning up pretty nice. I crude on the
playfield is coming off pretty easy. There are some spots were the dirt
looks like it is just inbeaded into the playfield and won't come out.
The gumball machine is not working properly and there is a part under
the playfield that is hanging down because the metal broke and the
balls just fall in to the cabinet. The left flipper is not
working.Everything else appears to be okay for what I can tell. The
display works. The one playfield wear is about a dime size and to the
wood the other one is a dime size and is to were it starts to show some
white but not to the wood. It should be fun getting it cleaned up and
going.

SO, You are saying that PRF would charge $1000 to re-do a TZ playfield.
But you have a playfield at PFR that you want to sell, but someone will
have to wait till it is done, pay you $1500 AND give you their old
playfield?

So the option is Send my playfield to PRF and pay $1000 and wait for it
to be done.

OR Pay you $1500 and wait for yours to be done, AND give you my
Playfield.

Seems like you are at least charging about $500 too much, or shouldn't
be asking for the used playfield.

Thanks skbrothers I will take some pics tomorrow. I should have taken
some of the playfield before I started cliening it but I was to excited
to see how it would clean up. The guy also wrote me a receipt. I will
take a picture of that to next to the machine.

PFR's work is awesome. They've done a couple games for me, and I have
another field they did for a fellow collector. I'm not doubting that

But a TZ field worth $1500 + a restorable core? Maybe you breathed in too
deeply when your last PFR restored field came in, got wasted and fell over
and hit your head - decent restorable TZ field should be $500 tops, and I
gotta think if one is beat so bad PFR is charging a grand to fix it, you
need to find a better core to start with.

PFR does great work, but they don't *rape* people!

i'll have to agree. I mean for $1500 you could get a restored MB or MM
field for that. TZ isn't exactly hard to come by, and i've never seen
any wear on any of them. The only way I could see a TZ field actually
getting damage is by the flipper bushings breaking and dragging
flippers across the field. I'd say a nice CC'd TZ field would be
500-800 tops. There's plenty of them out there.

It's also common to have wear on the rocket kicker area and the slot
kickout area on heavily played machines, and if the mylar has been
hosed in the pop area (of course, that could apply to any machine in
the pop area)

TZ has wear areas.. it has ball drops.. in the pop area.. the rocket
area.. the slot machine, and then of course the usual rough ball
damage possibilities.. door inserts.. etc.

ahh yes, forgot about the ball drop areas. Those usually stay minimal
for some reason. Doesn't get the heavy wear you usually see from ball
drops. Think most have mylar patchs. And I guess i have seen a TZ with
wear on the TOP video in the pop bumper area. Either way. TZ seems to
hold up better than most games that have that much action on the field.
