Custom painted Scared Stiff SS coin door

I had mentioned this in another thread a few weeks back and had promised
a picture.

This is a customer's SS coin door he had custom painted by a local
artist. It was entirely painted while ON the game. The base grey is
still slightly off, but the detail work is fantastic.

Very nice, Robert. Pass along my compliments to the artist.

One thing I'm surprised they didn't paint is those two carriage bolt
heads that hold the lock bar latching mechanism. They look out of
place now.

The reason I really liked my customer's version was the fact it had a
set of eyes on it, which really tied it into the theme of the cabinet IMO.

BTW, I might be having one done for myself and if so, my original coin
door will be up for sale.

Why doesn't someone create a vinyl applique that could be applied to
the door and bolt heads? I would think it would not be difficult to
Photoshop such an add-on. The creator would be able to match the
original gray which apparently isn't easy even for talented artists.

Perhaps not as cool as original artwork but definitely a lot less
expensive.

The one Chris did for me wasn't expensive at all and I'm sure he'd be
more than happy to do another. Seems to me he only charged me $75.

I doubt that would work, coin doors aren't flat so the decal
would more than likely be wrinkled or have air bubbles.

No, it can definitely work. I'm not suggesting a "decal" if by that
you mean the materials used on cabinets. The printer would use "cast"
pressure-sensitive film. It's the type of film used when wrapping
cars and buses. It is highly conformable to irregular surfaces and is
applied with a heat gun. Now it takes some skill to apply so that
might be the stumbling block but an experienced person would leave no
wrinkles or air bubbles.

Dont the front decals come "complete" in that the coin door hole has
to be cut into them ?
Why not replace the coin door with a flat piece of metal that has that
center portion attached ?
