One for the archives. I guess I'm one of the lucky ones that didn't
get PF burn, but upon power up, there was a loud hum. I thought it
was the transformer going bad, or some outlet or grounding issue.
Fortunately I didn't leave the game powered up that way for too
long.

Did a bit of googling which pointed me to the mini driver board under
the PF.

I tested the mini driver board transistors ( TIP 36) and Q2 middle
transistor was bad (The manual doesn't tell you which transistor goes
to which magnet <sigh>, replaced it, but no go and the TIP 36 fried
again. As it turns out Q34 TIP 102 on the main driver was bad or
shorted. Replaced that and the TIP 36 at Q2 and all is well.

Put my order in at pinball life for some EZ connect inline magnet
fuses.

I wish I was better at troubleshooting this stuff, what would take a
pro 15-30 minutes to diagnose took me about an hour and half.

If I may be so bold, you trouble shot this better than a pro.

You went through problem, diagnosis, manual lacking in info, and fix.

Damn fine job I think.

I agree with Lloyd, nice Job! Heck a lot of so call Pro's would have
just snipped the wires to that magnet, and fired it back up! :) If
they were really good they might have put some electrical tape on the
loose wire ends!
Game Repaired ticket closed! :)

The fuse kit from PBL is great, takes 12 seconds to install and you're
protected. First thing I did when I got my TAF.
