I was wondering how exactly people are doing rpgs by mail and if there
are any specific tips. I tried it once so far, but it didn't really
work out.

I'm still here because I find the idea interesting, but it seems like
you'll need to wait for the wheel of reincarnation to come around before
it becomes popular again.

meh, I'm hoping for interstellar travel. That one might make people
interested in the usenet again. How else would discussion forums over
light years work?

of course for that I first would need to invent FTL travel so I can get
people to use this newsgroup again.

And then of course the posting frequency would be terrible.

In article <20120905212028....@gmail.com>,
The lag would be terrible, that's true.

Back to the original question, though. System choice is important in PB(e)M
rpgs, as is the flavor of the game. Combat heavy campaigns tend to
drag, as do games with lots of "interrupt" driven behaviour. Also, be
wary of games with *lots* of players since the game tends to move at the
speed of whoever is slowest at any given moment.

On the up side, games with "complicated" calculations and/or activites that
require significant planning outside of actual play time work well for
PB(e)M.

All, IMHO, of course ...

Sounds like some good advice though.

I was thinking about moving my real life campaign into pbm, at least
for the time in between. We had one session last Saturday, and the
session before was in May. Considering I play with coworkers that's
just sad.
