Hello,

Thanks to everyone who helped me with my 1500 pt list before but the
more I try and tweak it the more I realize that an army that size is way too
big for my level of experience in this game. So please help me get a good
500 pt army going.

Small Halloween Marines500 Pts - Chaos Army

1 Mighty Champion @ 139 Pts
Close-Combat Weapon; Combi-Bolter; Mark of Chaos Undivided

5 Veterans @ [90] Pts
Bolter (x5)

10 Chaos Space Marines @ 150 Pts
Bolter (x10)

5 Chaos Space Marines @ 75 Pts
Bolter (x5)

5 Havocs @ 130 Pts
Bolter (x3); Lascannon (x1); Missile Launcher (x1)

Models in Army: 26

Total Army Cost: 494

Thanks,
John

fine, but for same cost 5 daemonettes have 3 attacks basic, 4 when charge
almost up to berzerker level!

Bad idea - Veteran Marines as retinue are crap. They're exactly the same as
normal marines (they lose infiltrate ability) but cost more.
Why does your Lord have a twin-bolter and ccw? The combi bolter doesn't give
you an extra attack in close combat, making the ccw worthless.
Drop the retinue, give him bolt pistol/ ccw (power weapon if you can afford
it) and spiky bits.

It's always a good idea to give Chaos Marines bp/ccw rather than bolters
unless they're part of a heavy weapons troop - they're almost as good at
shooty ('cos a lot of the time you'll be moving to let you charge) and
twice as good at HtH.
This can be a notable advantage over Tactical Marine squads!
Attach the Lord to this squad. Consider dropping one man and buying a Rhino
to get into HtH sooner - a decently tooled up Rhino will cost you 63 points.
(Dozer blade, extra armour, smoke launchers.)

Again, what do you plan to do with these? If they're shooty give them a
heavy weapon, if not give them bp/ccw.
They need an Aspiring Champion with MoCU so they'll pass their morale
checks.

It's not worth mixing weapons in a squad - go for all missile launchers.
Again, you need an Aspiring Champion so you don't have to worry about morale
checks.

Try this list:

Mighty Champ @ 52 points
Mark of Chaos Undivided, bolt pistol, close combat weapon, spiky bits

9 Chaos Space Marines @193 points
Bolt pistol/ close combat weapon
+ Rhino [58]
Extra armour, smoke launchers

6 Chaos Space Marines @ 105 points
Bolt pistol/ Close combat weapon
Upgrade one to Aspiring Champion with Mark of Chaos Undivided [15]

5 Chaos Havocs @ 150 points
Bolters.
3 Missile Launchers [60]
Upgrade one marine to Asp. Champ. with MoCU [15]

Total points: 500
Total models: 20 infantry, 1 vehicle

Alternatively, lose the Rhino and a heavy weapon, and you can afford to
boost your second Troop to 10 Marines and give the Lord a power weapon.

Repeated tweaking is the only reality, especially after you've already
converted all your miniatures.

I tweaked the list a bit and added in your suggestions. The only thing I
changed from your list is that the second unit of Ch. Space Marines are a
shooty squadron for thinning out enemy troops. Anything else I could make
better?

Small Halloween Marines500 Pts - Chaos Army

1 Mighty Champion @ 52 Pts
Bolt Pistol; Close-Combat Weapon; Mark of Chaos Undivided
Spiky Bits [5]

9 Chaos Space Marines @ 193 Pts (all attached to the above)
Bolt Pistol / CCW (x9)

1 Chaos Rhino APC @ [58] Pts
Smoke Launchers [3]
Extra Armour [5]
--------------------------------------------------------------
4 Chaos Space Marines @ 100 Pts (shooty - For thinning out infantry)
Bolter (x3); Autocannon (x1)

1 Aspiring Champion @ [30] Pts
Bolter; Mark of Chaos Undivided

4 Havocs @ 150 Pts
Bolter (x1); Missile Launcher (x3)

1 Aspiring Champion @ [30] Pts
Bolter; Mark of Chaos Undivided

Models in Army: 21

Total Army Cost: 495

Much more sound list, but drop the Havoc Champion and give the Lord a power
weapon. Heavy Weapon teams don't need a champion because they shouldn't be in
hand-to-hand. Besides that, I like the list. Might consider adding some special
weapons to the marine squads, once you get the points.

As I said above, don't include Aspiring Champions in shooty squads. They
are meant to stay out of combat and fire, moral tests shouldn't be a concern.
In such small forces, you don't need to waste points "just in case". With the
points you'll save, give the Lord a power weapon and the shooty squad a
special weapon (plasmagun perhaps). You should have 14 points left, so add a
dozer blade to the rhino. Now with 9 points left, give a plasma pistol to the
first Marine squad (only 5 points for a normal trooper).
That should leave you with 496 points, and a fairly versatile force.

This is all very good advice. The only thing I might tweak is swapping the
Autocannon out for a Heavy Bolter since it'd save 5 points and gives an extra
shot. However, the AC is a decent choice for popping rounds at light vehicles.
And finding ways to put plasma into this list is a good idea.
