Ok this last army, as you can see, has 168 points to throw around. ATM I
think I am going to drop the termies in favor of a 10 man Thousand Sons
squad. Then I would have 174 points to use up. Note this is an Iron
Warriors (undivided) army. I can use the 1k sons, however b/c they moved to
other legions. I'd like not to use any other cult troops, though. Also, I
am fairly low on cash, so I have thought up the idea of making all the CSMs
into vets and justt adding a couple marines here and there.
Thanks,
Phillip
Hmmm...nice and cheap but possibly vulnerable to morale breakage. You might
consider making one a champ for fifteen points and give him the Undivided
mark for free, which allows a re-roll on morale. Still, I think I need a
squad or two like this in my army.

Ditto for these guys.

Maybe swap them out for Raptors so you have fast attack?

As far as I can tell, there are no rules saying you can't have a cult squad
in an undivided army, or even an army of a different type. In other words,
it is legal to have a Thousand Sons troop in a Nurgle army if you want. If
anyone can find a rule forbidding this, please let us all know of it! The
closest thing I've seen is the chapter approved rule saying that a cult
squad shouldn't have a champion with a mark of another god or a Rhino with a
gift-upgrade of a different god. Personally, I think that flexibility is
one of the cool aspects of a Chaos army.
By the way, long live the Iron Warriors! What is up with that Steel Legion
trying to imitate the name, anyway?
Maybe to eat up points for the 2000 pt. version, but otherwise
not worth it IMO. After the two regular guys die, who do you
lose? The plasmagunner or the champ? And you'll almost always
want the lascannon guy to be the last casualty.

Nope, there's definitely no such rule. You can legally mix and
match however you want. Certain combinations are unfluffy, but
you're perfectly free to use them.

Yes, It is legal,. this is by personal preference.

hehe, we'll show em.
Personally, I consider the plasma pistols the weakest option for
Vets. They're nice, and they give you a bonus attack in HtH and
all, but the other options are better in my opinion. Meltaguns
are usually your best bet, since they're the ideal vehicle
killers and can also auto-kill T4 or lower models. OTOH, two
flamers really rock against horde armies.

You don't need to pay for the pistol. Unless you know you're
going to be able to infiltrate, a Rhino is be a good idea for any
HtH veteran squads. The Chaos Lord can hitch a ride with them
too.

He's getting a bit pricey here. Exalted status, chaos armor and
plasma pistols are all nifty, but taking all three together is a
bit much for my taste. You do want him mobile though, so unless
he can hitch a ride on a Rhino moving towards the enemy, you
should consider a jump pack for him, or even a bike.

Nasty. Again though, you don't need to pay for the AC's bolt
pistol.

Definitely take extra armor so he can still keep moving forward
into assault range if he takes a stunning hit (and also fight
back in close combat and not get tagged by grenades). Smoke
launchers are a good idea too.

Not a bad idea, T-Sons are pretty nice and can withstand a lot of
punishment. Nine is the fluffy squad size, if you care.

Sure. Other Cults can be found scattered among different
legions, too, so you're not limited to them alone.

Hmm . . . not something I'd generally recommend, but maybe if you
need to eat up the points. OTOH, you could always leave the
Terminators in and just add a small T-Son squad. If you juggle
the points around and maybe drop a Raptor or two (since they
auto-break opponents when they win combat on the charge, they
don't need to rely on outnumbering bonuses), you may even be able
to afford a 9 man Thousand Son squad.
Overall your army's look pretty solid.
hmm, flamers on an HtH squad would be pretty spiffy, would take care of a
lot of targets :). If i put them in the Rhino, though I lose the advantage
of them being vets...except for teh 2 special weapon thing.

Can an IC Chaos Lord do that? Or...if i trick him out for HtH (in other
words, leave him like he is :)) I can make them his retinue...
I was kindof thinking of teh Rhino as a mobile bunker for the
Havocs..would tehy be ok on their own?

Hey, I like em....besides i already had the minis :) Besides, people will
typically do one of two things, either rain down the heavy weapons fire
(most of their heavies) on them, which leaves other squads open to shoot, or
they underfocus on them, which allows the oblits to use their ability to the
fullest.

yeah...I know, drop the exalted maybe? again I could hook him up with the
vet squad and the rhino.

hehe thanks, and yes, Raptors are nasty. This squad is equipped to
assault anything from Ratlings to Wraithlords IMO :) ok..maybe not
wraithlords...

yeah, the 2k point army dread has em...the stunned to shaken is a nice
thing... and the pen. to glancing is always good

Yeah I know, i was thinking about taht after i wrote the post

yeah, i know the world eaters split up too after kharn's betrayal and
stuff.

this is true (about the raptors), but a 10 man raptor squad is a big
psychological advantage too...against the players :) esp. IG players. Heck
they can even stand up to 'nids a lot of the time.
> Overall your army's look pretty solid.
It should, some of it (the Lascannon/P gun sqauds) was your idea :)
> If i put them in the Rhino, though I lose the advantage

True, and if they could always infiltrate I'd be a lot more
hesitant to suggest it. The 2 specials is nice, though,
and you really want to capitalize on that by taking Meltas or
Flamers, otherwise they just seem like wannabe Berserkers. :-)

Sure. He can join any squad, even if they're in a transport.

That works just as well too.

Mmm, maybe, it depends on what army you're fighting. Of course,
you could always get a 2nd Rhino. :)

Whichever, I suppose. Exalted is the only one of the three I
ordinarily use, since it's always useful unless you're
auto-killed.

I'd try to make both the armor and smoke standard on all of
versions. They really are worth it.

I can't claim to have originated it though. :)
