OK, here goes. The best way (IMO) to paint marines, guardsmen, warriors or
whatever is as follows: Remember to keep reality in mind when painting.

Warriors of African Descent

When painting warriors of African Descent, start off by primimg your figures
grey of white. These two colors allow the brown or tan base coat color to show
up in either a light brown color when the base coat is white or a deeper or dar
ker brown when the base coat color is grey.

Once you have painted your figures their primary color, either tan or lt. brown
you will need to add a wash to the base coat. The best way to obtain a realisti
c color and not some chalky colored figure is to start off with a light wash of
brown ink. This should wash down into the cracks and crevices adding definitio
n to the figures face. Once the light wash has been applied, check to see if th
e color acheived is in keeping with the wide range of complexions that make up
the many groups of people of african descent. If you wish to paint some of you
r figure darker, add a little more ink to the figure and check the results.

Once you have acheived your desired color, its time to highlight the figure's
face and other features. The best way I have found to highlight a figure of
african descent is to use the color leather and the color flesh and dry brush
only the high areas of the face, i.e forehead, cheek bones, etc. Once you have
highlighted your figure its best to go back over the face with a light dry brus
h coat of either light brown or tan (this depends on which color you used as th
e base color).

I use this technique whenever I paint warriors of african or asia(the regions c
loser to the African Continent) descent. When I paint warriors from the other r
egions of Asia, I use the color flesh as the base coat color and wash with a
very light mixture of yellow and brown ink. This gives the figures a rich color
and does not play to stereo types. I highlight with a flesh.

For a good start I use XtraColor's Matt Flesh - Black, I am a
professional painter of Miniatures and I have been painting Mahdists
(Sudan War) and Zulus and other African Warriors. I also use Horizon's
full range of 10 flesh tones to get all sorts of different flesh tones -
only one I need help with is an Asian skin tone

Thanks in Advance
