Evening all!

Can any of the Yanks in the group tell me what's happened with the TV
schedule this week?
Seems like most shows are off for a week ?

Hmmm, that's odd. Most non-Merkins find Merkin TV to be 'off' all
the time. (I.e. cultural nerve-gas.)

If I had to guess, I'm going with Baseball World Series, etc.

and by "World" in "World Series" we mean... "the hundred or so miles
between New York and Philly"

"Sweeps week" is over. That's when they try for the best ratings to get the
ad money to pay for the next season of "Family Guy"...Ychhhh
So everyone but the tech monkey is on vacation. Oh the local news yokels are
still there, but programming is dead for two weeks..

nah, i think you'll find that teevee is the opium of the stupid right across
the "developed" world. it's just that US-based networks have traditionally
been the most successful/accomplished pushers.

Ok, thanks.
I figured it was some sporting event or holiday we don't know about.

Yeah I don't know what he's on about, Sweeps isn't over and the weeks
following it aren't dead ever anyway, it's just December so some
programmes are off over the Christmas period. Sweeps started yesterday
and goes on for a month.

This week was probably baseball as someone else said or just a random
skip week before crazy sweeps episodes.

Fallen.

Not all. The Big Bang Theory is excellent.
