Is it me, or is the GW site finally loading faster?
Excerpt from Phil Kelly's notes:
Cinematic
What we've found in our own games is that every Planetstrike game
tells a story, rich with heroism and defeat, glorious acts of courage
and terrible routs. It's almost impossible to imagine a way of playing
that gives you more 'wow, that's cool' moments.
Replay
The roles of attacker and defender are completely different, both in
terms of the tactics players will adopt for the game, and also the
miniatures they will want to bring to the battle. Players can hone
their forces by selecting different stratagems, employing different
ruses and plans to catch their enemy off guard. We've seen dozens, if
not hundreds, of games of Planetstrike here in the Studio, and no two
have ever been the same!
Action
As soon as the defender has his forces in place, the action kicks off!
The start of a Planetstrike game is not a slow burner - it's all out
war. As soon as a game of Planetstrike begins, it's non-stop action
until the battle is won.
Forces
Around the Studio, Terminator assault forces, Tau Battlesuit cadres
and hordes of Daemon Princes are emerging as just some of the
favourite force dispositions in Planetstrike. This new way to play
Warhammer 40,000 enables you to create all sorts of iconic and
exciting forces.

"Welcome to my strange alternative world of wargaming with toy

and books."

I've already started a small collection of yoghurt pots and milkshake
bottles for some home-brew bastions. There is one thing that has
occurred to me whilst reading through it though, I play Tyranids at
the moment and can't see them fitting into any role other than as
attacker. Thoughts?

Recovery is the only scenario that comes to mind.
Hey! You got your nasty secretions all over my bastion!
Bastion? Oi! There's bastion in my resinous secretions!
Oh, it's on now, bug! Hisss!
The real estate should have some pre-Nid value.
Otherwise, we'd nuke the entire site from orbit.
It's the boring way to be sure.

I haven't read the book yet, but a couple if ideas come to mind, especially
if the attacker is marines or Witch Hunters.
Norn queen hatchery.
Bio-Titan resupply base
Bio-Gruel pool near where an Inquisitor went missing (the IMPs don't want
his genes being redacted)
Main bio-chimney for refueling the TYR fleet.
Starbucks
i would imagine bio-titans "resupply" by chowing down on their slaughtered
prey, actually...
that said though: i seem to recall Forge World making some tyranid hatchery
/ amniotic cyst things, a few years back. there's no reason why players
couldn't make their own tyranid objectives from more... affordable
materials.

Yeah, I imagined a Brundle Fly process, myself.

The Citadel Bastions look to be @ 7x7x9in tall.
Once these dimensions are verified, alternates will appear.
Nid players just need ballpark wysiwyg to get them started.
Small waste baskets, flower pots, lamp shades, etc, go for $3.
28in of defenceworks = 12 corner pieces + 4 horizontal bits.
We just need the vertical dimensions, too.

Hey,
Don't forget the 99 cent stores. And I find that packing materials (like
foam or cardboard) make great "Imperial Outposts"
I'll put some pictures on picasa when I get home from work.

Here's a couple of examples. They are from the packaging for a weed whacker.
