Hello everyone...

I've received several requests from various people here on R.G.M.W. and
other places as well to produce a video on how to paint models...

I don't have access to a video camera, but I do have access to some
high quality digital cameras, so I can take a bunch of stills... These
stills would of course be turned into an HTML presentation which I
could distribute via CD.

Now, my questions I have for the group would be as follows:

What model(s) do you think I should do?
Which techniques should I really expand on and do more detailed
coverage of? (i.e. shading, blending, Non-Metallic-Metal (painting the
mini to look like metal without using metallic paints))
Colour choices?
And of course, what do you think would be a reasonable price for such a
CD?

Let me know what you think...

You can also send me personal comments at my yahoo account:
slaan...@KILLTHESPAMyahoo.com

I'm sure you can figure out which part of the email addy to remove...
If you can't, I would suggest you go to the nearest suicide booth and
press the "GO" button. *grin*

Later!

I personally would like to see a good explanation of shading/blending
and the non-metallic-metal (like how the Confrontation people do their
stuff)

price... I'd pay $20 for a good cd instruction...

Alright... that's the first response.. hopefully I'll get some more now
before going and doing a piece like that... I'm thinking of maybe doing
the Necron Nightbringer just 'cause he's a nifty piece (and I've got a
commission to do of one, so might as well kill 2 birds with 1 stone,
right?)

later!

Personally, I really like the WFB mounted Slaanesh Champion (even
though I don't play WFB) - and there are plenty that come to mind for 40K.
I'd also point out that there are a lot of other great ranges besides GW's
stuff. The question is more one of "What minis really catch your fancy
and make you want to put a stunning paint job on them?"

This should be the first portion - after all, painting strategy and
technique pretty well determines how the final product will look. Process
determines product. I'd suggest the following...

How one goes about determining the main/major colors of the minis and what
complimenting colors work with it. In otherwords, how to pick a goal for
what you want to the mini to achieve visually. 2nd part should be how to
avoid an 'over worked' or 'cluttered' look to your mini. I've seen a lot
of great modelers and painters who try to say to much and end up with a
cluttered mess. (Some folks don't seem to understand that if you
highlight everything - then nothing stands out.)

Once you've picked a scheme and goal, then look at different techniques
and how they will (or won't) work to realize your painting goal. Then go
on to show examples of the main painting techniques you use (doesn't even
have to be all on the same figure - a detailed example even if it isn't on
the primary mini you're demo-ing will be a HUGE help). Once you've
explained the strategic portion, and the painting tools of the trade, then
go on to show how they all come together in one finely detailed mini.
Doing more than one mini if that's what it takes to show good examples of
different techniques working together will only increase the value of the
CD to painters looking for solid information.

Again - depends on the depth of the knowledge and skills displayed,
and the amount information on the CD. Well worded descriptions combined
with sharp pictures are a God-send. The more examples of each stage of
the process (from initial planning to actual painting stages & various
techniques) the more the CD will be worth to a painter. Obviously it'll
be of greater value to those just learning, or those of medium skill
levels looking to improve (from what I've seen, your work rates very
highly in my book). I'd be willing to pay $20 or $30 for a good CD like
that. With the right marketing you could do very well profits wise. Not
to mention that you could not only sell the mini you painted, but sales of
a limited number of CD's should more than equal what you'd make on the
sale of the painted mini alone.

#1582. I think they call it Warhammer "40K" because that is how
much you are going to have to make per year in order to play.
