[PAINT] Interesting Airbrush Method

I had a couple of French compare the French and English version, and the
"Zenital" highlighting just means from above.

This is pretty much what I have started to do with Space Marines. It would
be interesting to see some bug characters done this way.

Zenithal highlighting is just another term for "regular" highlighting.
The sun is usually assumed to be overhead by most figure painters.
The term is only really used to differentiate betwen commonly used
highlighting and more specialised.
IE as opposed to object source highlighting or edge highlighting.

That method of underpainting is known as pre shading.
I almost always pre shade.
The airbrush method is very tricky to get to work just right.
You have way more control overbrushing.
Using an airbrush is slightly faster if you're really really good with one
and the figure suits.
Usually slower if you take into account cleaning the airbrush.

I've been considering a trip to the local art store to buy some high quality
acrylics to try through my air brushes. Hopefully though my local model
store will be able to get some more GSI paints out of Japan in the next
couple of months.

I have however bought red and flesh coloured Tamiya acrylics to do a quick
job on a bunch of old Daemonettes. I might however airbrush them a brown
colour and then shade them down to flesh and then wash with Windsor and
Newton inks. It would be a good test of the method.

I've been using inks more again recently after reading some of Mike McVey's
posts on painting armour.
