I'm in Liverpool right now - travelling down to GWHQ on Saturday to
get a book signed by Gav Thorpe (just so I can gawk at him) and pick
up eight copies of The Bugman's Game. Eight in a box, easy to ship
back as my second piece of luggage. Indeed. And I'll be drooling over
all the other goodies available for sale and stuff and things.

Oh yeah... the point of my message. Probably one for Matt C. Aside
from GW in Liverpool city centre, what other Friendly Local Gaming
Stores are there in the Liverpool area?

Cheers!
Chris

Bluntly, there aren't. None that I've found anyway.

My mate used to go to one in the area somewheres, I'll email him and ask,
but he's a bit crap at replying.

I used to have an independent trader's account until they tightened the
rules and put me out of business, so I never really looked for other
traders !

getting a book signed by Gav Thorpe is like celebrating Rosh Hashanah with
Hitler.

Remember - we have a pub in common - The Railway on Binns Road :D

Yeah, last time I was home I had a quick mooch around in town and
nuthin. Googlising doesn't turn up much either. Any info your chum
might have would be well appreciated. Was looking to have a look and
see if I can get my hands on stuff unavailable in Canada. Thanks for
any help you can offer Matt

Better to simply get in line, a copy of _Eisenstein_ in hand.
At the head of the queue, give it to Gav, and say,
"No, don't sign it; just READ it."

Turn and leave.

What's Canada actually like to live in?
Recent comments by both main political parties here have made me seriously
consider leaving for a country where my Law degree will be transferable.

It's better than this hole. There are the Canadian equivalent of
chavs, but they're much less obnoxious and sometimes intelligent.
There's still the crime and stuff as is worldwide - just depends where
you live as to how bad it is. The police generally have a handle of
it unless they're murdering Polish immigrants at Vancouver Airport
with tasers...

Lovely scenery. There is DEFINITELY a better acceptance of different
cultures than in the UK, IMO. Politicians are idiots, no matter which
Parliament they sit in, so I need not say more.

Cost of living is good. Petrol is about 50p a liter but people still
bitch about it. Houses are relatively affordable, but a sizeable
deposit is advised. Cars are okay. Cars are cars, really. Cost of
ownership can be high if you go in with a low downpayment - same as
anwhere I guess...

I think I made the right move. Vancouver's a great place - LOTS of
hobby stuff but of course FW is more expensive unless you still do it
in £250 orders for the shipping. I can't tell you about the rest of
the country, I've not been there yet! :)
Ontario's okay if you have a fetish for snow.

I'm curious who Matt's chum is.
If he's a LWA member I probably know him.

The LWA is not ideal for anyone only wants to play GW games.
There are some kids play 40k on a Saturday.
I've seen their stuff set up but only ever go there on a Sunday when they
hide or hibernate or something..
Very occasionally, I play WFB but the vast majority of the rest of the club
think it's rubbish.
The site mentions meeting times and explains you will never find it without
directions.
You might not even believe the directions as it's in a basement (literally)
down an alley.

The Monday evening club above GW is probably more relevent.
Hot packed and airless though.

Shops wise there is Ral Partha europe.
http://www.ralparthaeurope.co.uk/
This is the same guy who used to run Games.
The shop which used to be by the old tunnel.

Model Zone in the precinct is more interest to locals and presumably you
also have art shops in Canada.

Cheers,
Andy O'Neill

Cheers Andy I'll go and have a look there. I'm only here until
Wednesday so I probably won't bother with the wargamers club.

True, but at least the Canadians are actually prepared to deal with it.
During the heaviest snowfalls the snow plows are pretty much running 24
hours to keep the roads clear. Unlike the UK shutting down completely
when they get three inches (cue inuendo).

I agree completely. I shake my head now, having dealth with at least 2
feet of snow on a yearly basis here in Vancouver. If they got that much
in Liverpool the place would go to the apocalypse and suddenly they'd
all be driving cars with mesh windows and gun turrets and dress like
leather punks. Yes, just like in Mad Max 2.

well, yeah.
here in Liverpool it'll probably snow at least once a winter - that being
any time between november and march.
And when I say "snow" I'm talking about maybe an inch.
So.... what would be the point of buying a load of snow ploughs ?
Cost a fortune, have to store them and maintain them, and hardly ever use
them.

So... when we get real snow... no snow ploughs.
Vancouver gets 2 feet of snow every year, so it's worth maintaining snow
ploughs.

Not much snow in Mad Max tho'. Oh and it was probably something like Road
Warrior 2 in the USA. I'm not sure it was the Mad or the Max that wasn't
suitable for the American title.

I agree, me too. As much as I love Liverpool, the government, chavs,
crap job prospects made me want to leave.
