Historical horse colours

I have a couple of painting projects lined up and would like some advice on
horse colours. I know how to paint the various types of horses (blacks,
chestnuts, bays &c). My question concerns the distribution of these colours
in particular times/places. Specifically I would like to know about arabic
horses in the near east ( Arab empire era). Minoans and "biblical"/AANE
horses/equids. A simple set of rules along the lines of colour X is the most
prevelant, colours Y,Z would be unknown would be a great help. Any URLs of
online resources would be appreciated.
