This was discussed in BattleTalk98 today.
They will not only not be using new artwork, but are gradually going to
phase the mechs out in favor of the newer mechs.
I agree with their reasoning behind it.
1: People would probably be mightily offended by any sort of redesigns of
the mechs appearance from a sentimental standpoint.
2: To actually draw a new mech design that was radically different, to show
that they are not using the original artwork, would make them essentially
new mechs.
So the F14 will be sentimental curiosity pieces for the older BattleTech
players to get oohs and ahs from younger players.
The reasoning behind the actual phasing out of the mechs themselves?
The technology behind BattleMech design has been recovered to a sufficient
point that the IS no longer requires 300 year old mechs to hold the line.
The new ones are coming on line to fill the same niches in combat scenarios
and do it better. Hence, factories are being retooled for newer mechs and
replacement parts, while the older ones slowly die to to dearth of parts.

Stuff snipped. Not to be picky but shouldn't this be 28 (32?) mechs? sm
Leasons I have learned from Babylon 5
#1 If you are out gunned, use a nuke.
#2 If you want to piss someone off, use a nuke.
#3 If you want to blow up something, use a nuke.
#4 Someone on this show likes to use nukes.

Now this makes some sense. I may not like it that much, but it is
logical, intelligent, and creative.
Wow, FASA actually pulled this one off (to me, at least)...

No, they just arn't as graphicly pleasing (ie: they are butt ugly)
compared to the TimberWolf/MadDog.
And I STILL think the 180 spin they've done to the storyline is a
crock o' $#!&....

That was discussed in irc, and posted here after I got the email from
Nystrul.
While I agree w/ that, the phasing out AND the no new artwork, I still
think removing the fluff text from tro3025 is kinda bs. If they touch
the photocopy book man... :)
