Lightfeeld is rather vague as to what tiles can be present for the 8
seasons/flowers and he mentions all sorts of possibilities ranging from
the (acepted) fishermen, through to grashoppers, butterflies, frogs, etc.
etc. ...
If the 4 mentioned tiles /are/ the 4 'disciplines/passtimes", has any one
any idea if this set fits into a particular timescale or region (of
China, where I think the set originated) ?
Thanks in advance for any tips and please send me a CC, as news is
unreliable (maybe I should make that my signatuire! :-I :-) ).
best regards,
Peter

It's very hard to work from descriptions.

All sorts of possibilities can be used. Flowers and seasons are the
common ones, but (for 'normal' flowers, i.e. no special rules such as
flower capturing) one can use any 2 sets of 4 'flowers' as long as
there is one flower corresponding to each seat in each set.

The idea of the 4 'disciplines' is rather ancient in China, probably
long before the birth of mah-jong. (Otherwise, mahjong would probably
be there instead of chess/go. ^_^ ) Thus we can't make the specified
association, I think.

The "decorative stuff" you see is probably a pair of go bowls.
Misinterpretation of the art on this tile seems to be fairly widespread.
