Has anyone here run into a strange bug in zork zero where the potion is
lying on the floor by itself outside the cup? I don't know how I got
into this position, but I think I'm screwed. Can someone confirm this?

Thanks,
Dan Giaimo

Have you tried:

transfer potion to cup
move potion to cup
pour potion into cup
get cup. get potion with cup.

In any case, you should contact Nathan Simpson about the bug. There's
certainly a chance that he can help you find a way around it too. You
can find him through this page: http://www.microheaven.com/InfocomBugs/zorkzero.shtml

As Fredrik predicted, I'm interested as soon as I see "bug"
associated with an Infocom game. I started playing through a
walkthrough last night to get to the point with the potion.

The bad news is, I don't think there's any way to get the
potion back in the cup. You probably said DROP POTION
instead of DROP CUP. That would create the situation you
describe. THROW POTION does the same.
None of Fredrik's suggestions work, nor does anything
I've tried. The game is really careful about preventing
you from acting on the potion if you aren't carrying it,
and holding the cup isn't enough if the potion's not in it.
But you can still DRINK POTION when holding the cup.

So here's the problem: You're going to need to use
the potion twice. It wears off, but I'm not sure in how
many turns. If it lasts long enough, you might still get to
both of the places you use it soon enough after drinking
it, using the perch and pigeon.

If the potion lasts N turns, then if either of the two places
you use it is more than N steps away from a place you
can drop things, then you probably are screwed. You
won't be able to get Babe Flathead's club.

Good luck!

Speaking of Infocom bugs, how hard would it be to merge Graeme Cree's
list with Nathan Simpson's? Since it looks as if Cree's list is no
longer being maintained, it would make things a lot easier to have one
list once again. Has anybody contacted Graeme about this? There are a
few bugs I've found not on either list, but I don't know who is the
"official" maintainer anymore.

I contacted Graeme in November 2008. He said he was
looking for new hosting and would let me know soon.
He didn't respond to my query about merging the two lists.

If you have more bugs, please share! I would say start a
new thread here, or you can always email them to me.
I haven't updated my list in a good while, but mostly it's
do to a lack of information. There are 2 Zork I bugs I still
haven't added, but both require a lot of work to verify first.
