Go board wood revisited

Hey all;
Just kind of curious here. Wikipedia claims that "California Kaya" wood
(Torreya Californica) has recently become prized for go boards. Now I
have no doubt that it would be an excellent wood for the purpose, but I
have never seen ANYONE offer one for sale, or suggest that such a thing
exists, except on wikipedia, and sites that quote it (either credited

For those interested, there was an event held at Keio University during
which the program Crazystone played Aoba Kaori 8p. Crazystone played at
h8 and the game was 30 secs\move. Aoba Kaori resigned. Discussion just

Making a board: Wood recommendations?

Hey all;
Going to make a modest table board (~2-Sun thick), and have a variety of
woods available. I've basically narrowed it down to Alaska White Spruce
("shin-kaya"), or Yellow Cedar (sometimes called Hiba, but Hiba is actually
something quite different, botanically speaking.)
Any thoughts between the two?
