Anybody know what happened to the 12th Hikaru No Go DVD? It was supposed to come out last month some time, but then it disappeared from stores listings, and I'm getting worried that Viz has dropped the series...
Also, does anybody happen to know if the Japanese DVDs come with English-language subtitles?
The japanese DVDs come with english subtitles, but they are awful. In the later sets that I have "stones" are translated as "grains" and there are many times where you have to do some guessing to understand. I bought them online so I don't know for sure that these are the legit copies, but they seem real. The huge differences in the translation quality between the different sets is a little suspicious.

Viz has cancelled the release of the remaining DVDs as single disks due to poor sales. Basically, they've discovered how expensive it is to translate and market, and are instead focusing their energies on the shounen market (Naruto, Bleach, Death Note), where they get a greater return for their effort.
There is speculation that Viz will, later this year, release a slim-case box set with ALL the episodes of HnG in it. No official confirmation yet form Viz Media, though. Pisses me off, though, that to get it, I'll have to re-buy episodes I already bought, just to complete the series.

Hikaru no Go is a beautiful series, with a beautiful ending. I don't know about the original Japanese DVDs having subs, but I know of a Chinese "box release" of the series. Like Joel says, the subs are fantastically terrible on it. But if you're one of many trying to learn to speak and read Japanese here in Region 1 and can tolerate such epic subtitling as: "kanzie play a chequer a tth e GOGO institute lost those four chessman" or "nature horse and horse with Touya" (I'm still don't know what that's supposed to mean), you will probably enjoy it.
What I don't understand is that Toonami Jetstream is actually showing episodes quite past the Vol. 11 release, with the same hokey American voice cast as the ones on those releases. One must ask where they fit in to the show's release cancel, hence the s peculation Aaron spoke of.... Any enlightenment on that?
