IGS set me to BC - help!

I was hoping to get an IGS ranking, and feel that I am around the level of
the 17k players on there. Seemed to be going OK as I approached 20 rated
games, IGS had moved my ? rank a couple of times, ending on 17k?. However,
my last couple of ranked games were pretty hopeless, and when I finished
twenty, it set me to BC.
Not complaining about the decision, but it seems now that since I am BC my
games aren't rated, and I'm wondering how I ever get away from this. Can I
get a rating whilst my games aren't rated? Or should I throw in the towel
and start with a new user id?

They stopped recording ranks below 17K some time ago replacing them
with BC you'll just have to win a few rated games before you go back.
As soon as you hit a bad patch stop playing rated games the damage can
take ages to undo especially as you get more and more desperate.

You're not the first, only, and won't be the last one to experience
this, people are surprised to learn that even after they have won their
5 BC games and start playing with 15, 16, and 17k accounts that they can
lose their way back to BC. Just keep playing, have fun, and review your
games, and don't worry about the rating, the system tracks you, as you
are aware from the first paragraph of your post. When you have 20 rated
games again, and haven't dropped back to BC due to your results, you
lose the ? and stay at some level of kyu. There is a "ratings explained"
link from the main IGS English page. Don't worry about winning or your
rating, just play, have fun, and review.
