I was NOT planning to return but after spending an hour reading on Fuzion &
Champion rules, it looks to be a VERY much like Hybrid. SO, WHY is everyone
either flaming me or do NOT understand Hybrid, when it is so much like the 2 of
your favorite rpg systems ?

IF you look at SIMPLE analogy of math being your 2 systems & physics being
Hybrid, but BOTH using the SAME rules but from different points of view with
SAME end results. So, why NO one understands Hybrid, when it is so much like
the 2 of your favorite rpg systems ?

To be completely honest and non-flip, I don't understand it for five reasons:

- The "rules" are posted in a haphazard piecemeal fashion.
- The system uses many different values that have similar names; whereas in
mathematics it's necessary, in an RPG it's just confusing.
- The system uses complex equations for the simplest things (such as 3^x, which
I can't figure in my head for x>3).
- Apparently the GM needs to account for 1000+ variables in any decision
situation, which I am certainly not interested in doing nor capable of doing.
- You refuse to post examples of play.

It looks to me that 3^x is supposed to be 3 to the x power. It's an
exponential function, so it grows really fast.
3^1=3
3^2=9
3^3=27
and so on.

Right... okay, 3^4 I can figure in my head (81). And 3^5 = 232? Past that, I
have no shot, so talking about either 3^10 (EGO) more than that, I'm lost.

Because Fusion and Champions are not math

It was an ANALOGY, meaning math has NO substance without physics, similarly
Fuzion & Champions would have NO substance without Hybrid.

I already gave a dozen samples & added 1 more just today, it's the ultimate
equation to binds all rpgs into 1 which is what Hybrid half about & other half
an exercise in physics :

Tech Level # in GURPS, which is similar to Tech Level # in Fuzion, leaving Tech
8 & 9 as it is in GURPS without change, as I found a way to makes sense out of
the original Tech Level #, as I'm assuming it's meant for low powered mutants
like MU Blink

= 5 * [ ( EGO ) / 10 ]^( 1 / 2 ) .

So, 33 Psyche or 33 EGO = Tech Level 9.08 :: teleportation

It's brilliant

You guys might be role playing Fuzion, GURPS & Champions for 18 years but I
discovered this equation in just 18 days. The equation predicts that I'm on THE
right track ALL along all this time & it's YOU guys that are lost, meaning the
creators of Fuzion, GURPS, '86 MU TSR rpg & Champions used ideas that are
EXACTLY like mine.
This Tech Level equation prove it.

Actually 3^5 is 243. A calculator with an exponetial key can handle most of
the higher stuff. 3^10 would be 59049.

God only knows why he wants to use such high numbers for the simplest of
things. Of course, I don't think even God understands Hybrid.

3^10 (EGO) more than that, I'm lost.

I put down "3" as base to help you understand with an easy & simple example how
TK & TP can be used but since it depends on a "reference frame" which varies
depending on type of power ; but, to put it simply if you squeezed mass of moon
into volume occupied by the Juggernaut or Nightcrawler, you'd get the kinds of
weird powers you see in MU. So, "3^10 kg" for 10 EGO, meaning if you're not a
mutant you get 5 or less EGO & those points are used differently, depending on
how powerful you want to make the Juggernaut & Nightcrawler. If you make them
as them as they are with NO power reductions then they should get between 15 &
30 EGO, depending on life-span & background radiation, MU gods. You could
increase base from "3" to "4" but at higher cost or reduction in life-span
or/and COM, INT & END.

What's so hard about that ? You don't need to be either an idiot-savant or a
genius to do this. Just use your common sense & intuition & don't restrict
yourself to just what's written as rules, meaning try to use physics but don't
again just restrict yourself with written rules, meaning use common sense.

BirdMuleMan:

I'm concerned that some of what follows will sound insulting. I don't
mean it to.

1. Your grasp of written colloquial English is simply not up to the task
you're undertaking. Before anything else, you really need to learn more
about how English handles tenses and numbers, and also learn about the
use of punctuation. I don't know if in fact you're not a native speaker,
as the name posted by someone else would suggest, or if you've grown up
in an English-speaking environment and not had the opportunity to learn
grammar systematically. Whichever it is, the fact is that you're failing
to communicate to your intended audience.

2. Your background in math and physics shows in the way you construct
examples, and not in ways that help in this sort of discussion. In the
sciences, it's often sensible to label related concepts with closely
related symbols, like a and A, or a and a' and so on. But gaming writing
is a form of technical writing or documentation in which it''s more
important to remove opportunities for ambiguity and overlap.

You can and should use whole words rather than single letter or
acronyms, wherever possible. More people remember "Strength' than "STR",
and in turn more remember that than "S" or (worse yet) "X" or something
like that. Likewise, you gain nothing and lose quite a bit in
comprehension and accidental confusion by assigning labels like p to
game systems, rather than spelling out words like Champions and Fuzions.
Cut and paste, if the typing is an effort. (That in particular is not a
slam - at least one occasional poster here, for instance, has deformed
hands and types with his knuckles, and makes heavy use of macros and
other utilities. Do what your situation requires.)

3. Use carriage returns and tabs as your friends and allies. If you are
constructing if...then statements, for instance, break them out like
this:

IF condition A
THEN results A
ELSE IF condition B
THEN results B
ELSE results C

You tend to run this altogether, like IF condition A THEN results A ELSE
IF condition B THEN results B ELSE results C, and frankly, even people
who read software code on a regular basis have trouble following it. You
want to make it easier for readers to assimilate your intended meaning.

4. Check your terms. Once again, I do not mean to be insulting, but the
fact is that the literal meaning of your written words is often and
precisely nonsense. When you refer to EGO as a concept in GURPS, for
instance, you speak nonsense. GURPS doesn't have it. If you want to
argue that something in GURPS is equivalent, feel free to do so, of
course, but you have to check yourself on these things.

One of the good rules of thumb for any communication is 'the meaning of
a communication is the response it gets". If _nobody_ is understanding
your point, then by definition you are failing to get it across. Why
persist in a course of action you _know_ won't work? Try something else
next time.

I do not, alas, expect any of this advice to register with you or help
in any way, but it would be neat if it did.

We are discussing superheroic fantasy, which is delightfully counter-

because under those conditions, a game can far too easily dissolve

All Usenet posts have at least three distinct audiences, though:

- the person they're addressed to (when one is following up to someone
else).

- the other participants in the thread.

- bystanders and lurkers.

I find it useful for my own personal sake to review principles of good
posting style, and hope that others reading the thread also found
something of value in it. This can be true whether or not the gent in
question is paying attention, sincere, competent, or anything else.
