If you have the time and inclination to build your own (or tweak an
existing) magic system to perfectly fit your campaign then
Thaumatology is a must-buy.

If, like me, you only start to understand how good Thaumatology is
after reading Magical Styles and noticing that almost everything in
there refers back to it then it is also a must-buy, eventually :-)

Cheers,

Basically a magical style is a collection of spells categorized into
difficulty levels that replace the standard prerequisite rules. Then
there's a bunch of perks to go along with the styles.

There's a lot more to it than this, but it's all laid out in _GURPS
Thaumatology: Magical Styles_:

I wrote up a new magical style and put it here:

Magic Styles is a PDF about how to create magical styles for users of
GURPS magic along the lines of the martial arts styles in Martial
Arts. Although technically it is a Thaumatology expansion, I don't
know why he says you need Thaumatology for it. You don't. Among
other things, it has a nice selection of new perks specifically for
magic users.

It can be, but it doesn't need to be. It's quite legal and valid to have
a magical style that uses the normal spell prerequisites.

A magical style is like a martial arts style, only with spells instead
of maneuvers.

Hmmmmm... I've saved a copy for later, more detailed, perusal.

GURPS Thaumatology: Magical Styles is a 38-page PDF with about 50
references within it to specific pages in GURPS Thaumatology. If
nothing else, this is more than likely to pique your interest as to
the contents of that work.
