After reading Nockermensch's Sword of Light post, I was thinking about other
anime stuff that would work as magical items in D&D. Anyone have ideas for
game stats on any of the following items?

From "Slayers," Zangulus' Howling Sword, and Lina's Demon Blood Talismans.
The guymelef Escaflowne, of "Vision of Escaflowne."
The mystical armors from "Ronin Warriors" (aka "Yoroiden: Samurai Troopers").

Done those.

But they're WAAAY too powerful for most campaigns (especially the
latter); Avalanche Pass became Avalanche Gap after a couple PCs using
two of the Yoroi (IIRC it was Rekka and Tenku [aka "Wildfire" and
"Strata") got in a serious argument with one of the baddies and the
subsequent fireworks rearranged the landscape.

"Landscape rearranging" is one of most used clichés in anime. I won't
even mention DBZ...

Here's a spell to simulate the favored attack of hostile sorcerers in
fantasy animes:

grabber field (evoc(?), 8th level)
This spell creates an invisible force field to grab objects or
creatures in short range. A targeted creature can dodge the force field
with a sucessful reflex save. Once grabbed however, the creature is
held immobile by the field, and can be tossed around as the caster
wishes. Damage is done when the creature is smashed against a solid
surface (walls, ceilings) for 6d6 of physical impact damage. The caster
can toss the force field once per round. The only way to save a grabbed
creature is damage the caster. This forces a concentration check. If
the caster fails the check, the magic is dispelled and the creature is
fred.
Tossing the force field is a move action. The caster can't cast other
spells while the grabber field is active. If a creature dodge the force
field the caster can try to grab it (or choose other target) again next
round. Just one grab attempt per round, but the caster can sucessfully
grab and toss in the same round. The caster can toss the grabbed
creature against another creature. This requires a extended touch
attack. If sucessful, both the grabbed creature and the targeted
creature take 3d6 damage. The spell's duration is one round per two
caster levels. Subject to spell resistance.

I posted something about the Slayer's magic system sometime ago. I
really think the Slayers spell system is mana based. The demon blood
talismans work much better in such systems, but here's my try to
simulate'em in D&D system:

Demon Blood Talismans: These four gems must be worn by the caster
(filling two bracers, a philactery and a belt buckler). Once worn, they
must be activated by a special first level spell (cantrip maybe?) - the
formula for this activation spell is always found with the talismans
(or not, maybe to find the formula is an adventure in itself...)
Once activated, the gems glow bright red and the next spell the caster
casts gains four levels. These levels must be used to pack metamagical
feats in the spell as the caster wishes: the spell could be enlarged
and maximized or empowered twice, etc. The caster doesn't need to know
the metamagical feats to use them.
Also, these talismans are rumored to give power to cast spells beyond
the ninth level. These legendary spells, if they really exist, must be
found by the wizard through long and hard quests.

Zangulus Howling Sword: it seems to be a thundering bastard sword +?
with a special power: the wielder can throw a sonic wave from the
blade, damaging foes at distance. To throw the wave, use the same
system I sugested to sword of light: The wielder must suceed in a will
save with DC 8 + the amount of d8 he wants in the wave. Ah, and to
limit this makes the sonic wave (and sword of light's light beam too)
works just once per 1d4 rounds.

Guymelefs are actually huge creatures with mondo Strength, great armor
and some DR. There's a "guymelef piloting" skill that helps to steer
these beasts in battle. While I'm too lazy to devise a complete system
to do this now, the basis is: A guymelef attacks with its pilot thac0
minus a huge penalty (as the pilot fights in very adverse conditions).
the piloting skill helps to reduce and even negate this penalty.

Mystical Armors are another anime cliche. Better yet, they define an
entire genre of anime - saint seiya, shurato, ronin warriors, etc. (and
I don't like this genre) Consider all "mystical armors" artifacts
giving bonuses (in attributes, attack, ac, etc, etc) and the power to
cast a fixed amount of spells per day - a "fire armor" could grant fire
immunity and allow the wearer to cast six burning hands, three
fireballs and a fireshield per day. Once per week it can cast an
improved fireball and once per year a meteor swarm (or the wearer must
suffer some severe adverse effect every time he wants to summon one of
the major armor powers - and I'm sure you can think in several good
adverse effects)

@ @ Nockermensch, who will buy "Ruin Explorers" very soon.

Or a Comb of Colorful Hair Dying? I sure would like to know how to get
Tsunami's hair shade on one of my characters without resorting to the
possible Water/Air Genasi.

What about (snicker) Chibi-Usa's hair shade?

Just Distorts the physical features expanding Eyes and upper head, shrinking
mouth and Chin.

What's the slayers spell she's always doing "destructive circle" or
something. I'm gonna bring the D&D cartoon items into my next campaign, I've
stolen the eye of Thundara Fought with a giant spatula, found a bracelet
that would let you "morph" (become a 12th level Monk for 1 hour). I've met
Belldandy. Fought the stone guy from Ninja scroll lotsa stuff...

Maybe the "Still Have Depth Perception Even With My Hair Covering Half My Face"
feat? (I always laugh at Trowa in Gundam Wing; sure, give the Gundam whose main
ability is shooting numerous guns simultaneously to this guy... :)).

If you look, his hair only covers his eye from top-slanted shots. It
sticks straight out enough so that he can see with both.

Besides, all people with the "one eye covered" hairstyle have the
ability to see THROUGH the hair on that side. It's the law.

I want the anime ability to have Cool Entrances.
