Hi guys,

Old timers will remember me as one of the founders of empire last
century when I, with a team of developers, released Empire versions
2.1 through 3.0, including the port to Linux. I got my start with
Empire coding by authoring a program called "fairland". I was a huge
fan of the game and played a country called "children".

I spent some time in the last year writing a new, empire-like game
that has been in alpha testing for the past couple of months and is
now ready to be beta-tested. I based a bunch of the units and
mechanics of the game on Empire. It's got land/sea/air/satellite/
missile units, supply lines, interdiction, interception, and all that
good stuff, but I completely stripped out all the economic and
resource management aspects of the game, keeping the focus strictly on
tactical, strategic and diplomatic relations.

The code is open-source and available on Google Code if you're
curious. I have no commercial aspirations for this game; I'm just
doing this for the love of strategic gaming.

I'd really appreciate it if you could come and give it a try. You can
read the rules, register, and start playing here:

I created a new 10 player game called "empire".

If it fills up, I'll create a second game.

Some notes about the interface:

1) The web interface for registering and joining is a bit flaky. If
you get a blank page, click "refresh" in your browser and you should
get the page.

2) It's a java interface that uses jnlp to download the application,
so you'll need to install the latest version of java before you can
run the interface.

3) I've only tested it in Windows so far, but since it's Java / SWT it
should work on all operating systems. I'd love some help to port it
to a Mac and Linux if there are any volunteers--I think it's just a
simple matter of swapping some jars.

I hope to see you in the game! And thanks in advance for your help.

Cheers,
Ken Stevens, ruler of children
